I'm really glad this thread is still going, maybe it could become the Official RATM Thread in the future. Keep posting people!

So what do people here think of the Renegades album? I think it was an interesting view into many of Rage's inspirations, and favourite artists. These were no cop-out covers either as they are all radically different from their originals. All in all the songs are not as good as Rage's originals but are defnitely worth the purchase if you are a fan.

Favourites:
I'm Housin
How I Could Just Kill A Man (better than the Cypress Hill original)
Kick out the Jams (sounds even better when they play it live on Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium)

Threads become official threads because there are a large number of threads on that band at the smae time.
It has nothing to do with how many posts are in it.

Arucard 01-09-2005 02:55 PM

Ooops, thats what i mean. Feel gay ++

I know that is usually the case but I seem to remember that huge Opeth Thread that got given official status, and to my memory their was no epidemic of Opeth threads at the time.

ohh well this thread is fun regardless.

Effectively this thread is already an official thread, just without the tag. So if you just treat it as one, and quit asking for the tag then all of your problems are solved :)

opeth_oasis 01-09-2005 06:29 PM

I just bought the grand olympic auditorium dvd. It's pretty good, Tom Morello is such a perfectionist, and the mosh pit looks bloody insane. lol rage have very distinct views on social issues and politics.

Rasta Rocker 01-09-2005 06:44 PM

I've already read some articles and biographies of them, but I still can't figure out what their exact views are...anyone know the specifics?

Jawaharal 01-09-2005 06:47 PM

battle of l.a. is my favorite ratm album
I've already read some articles and biographies of them, but I still can't figure out what their exact views are...anyone know the specifics?
They hate Democrats and Rebublicans. What else do you want to know?

Rasta Rocker 01-09-2005 07:05 PM

haha, thats good. But does anyone know why Brad Wilk has what some may call an obsession with the number 3?

Darkness 01-09-2005 07:09 PM

I've seen this question before...and I still can't answer it lol

But I can tell you that hes the least political in the band and that hes staring in an upcoming movie.

opeth_oasis 01-09-2005 07:42 PM

all i can say is that they get their statement across

RaTm_FaN 01-09-2005 08:10 PM

so wat movie is he staring in...wats it about?

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-09-2005 09:58 PM
They hate Democrats and Rebublicans. What else do you want to know?
Then uhh..why did they play at the Democratic convention in the '96 election? It may have not been the '96 election, but they did perform at one of them.

I heard Morello was a Commie. All his hats say something like "Commie" or have the hammer and sickle on it...gahh

opeth_oasis 01-09-2005 11:08 PM

lol yeah they have Che Guievara all over the stage when they play (if you dont know he was a communism leader)

Janitor 01-09-2005 11:09 PM

They were protesting.

Yeah, he is a communist. I'm not sure what Zack is, which is weird as he was the vocalist.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-09-2005 11:12 PM
They were protesting.
Dammit, so then yes, they are commies. :p

I'm not kidding about this either.

DekWannaBFlea 01-09-2005 11:57 PM

They are socialists not communists. And they all seem to have the same views.

DonMancini 01-10-2005 04:58 PM

That Morello interview a page or two back, was that real? :p

Cause if it is, that's hilarious. But I doubt it.

munky_magik 01-10-2005 05:02 PM

so how do you feel about the rather extrodinary growth of your thread?

DonMancini 01-10-2005 05:16 PM
so how do you feel about the rather extrodinary growth of your thread?
I've had bigger *that sounds wrong :p * But this one is rather interesting, unlike the spam filled pit ones.

I'm happy for the content more than the size, because that's what really matters.

you keep your sizes to yourself ;)
This thread is good because it actually has conversation.
Spam isn't really tolerated in R&M but usually most of the threads still suck. So rep to you for making a good thread Sir :)

Darkness 01-10-2005 06:25 PM

AHH...Guys rage aren't commies.

"RATM was for revolutionary thinking, never an absolute political agenda. They are first and formost for freedom, human rights, equality, and the overthrowing of oppression. May that be capitalist oppression of the poor, dictatorship, abusive communist regimes, racism, sexism, animal rights, etc. Socialism and communism has been a mind catalyst for them, as seen from their book list, but never a goal for themselves or listeners; its only to help a burgeoning mind break away from the mold of the modern day monetary monotony. These recommendations of socialism will help many people THINK, its philosophy...it won't make them instantaneously a communist. Thats ignorant. Any book that deals with Revolution, hence most socialist ones, are a recommended book for RATM. Naysayers must get that throught their head."

I quoted someone on the zdlr site...we had this conversation there to.
That Morello interview a page or two back, was that real? :p

I believe it to be real. Because like...they got info about what Audioslave was doing at the time, but whatever.
Then uhh..why did they play at the Democratic convention in the '96 election? It may have not been the '96 election, but they did perform at one of them.
They played outside the 2000 election not sure about the 96. But they were there to protest it. See the GOA dvd, Zack has a small speech about the DNC on it.

Sorry for double post..

Apocalyptic Raids 01-10-2005 09:01 PM

That morello interview is real.

i first read it ages ago at

Yes, somebody had a link to the interview off of Metalsludge. It's real. :D

Apocalyptic Raids 01-11-2005 07:03 AM

its the best morello interview ever, easily.

Metal Sludge have some other great interviews also.
AHH...Guys rage aren't commies.

Tom had a hammer and sickle sticker on his guitar for a while. There is nothing wrong with being communist anyway.

Bass_ment 01-11-2005 11:41 AM

I think simply writing Rage off as communist is much to simple. They were certainly left-wing though its way oversimplified to call them communist.

munky_magik 01-11-2005 11:44 AM

Did they ever release an official statement in regards to their political beliefs?

.Realm.of.Chaos. 01-11-2005 12:05 PM

Finally a great thread! RATM is one of my fav bands, I have all their albums and I am glad to see this thread is doing so great and the "Featured Artist: Pink Floyd" thread is doing quite poorly. Thank God for threads like this :)

wha does the success of the Pink Floyd FA have to do with anything??

Huber 01-11-2005 12:12 PM

One time Pink Floyd bought Zack De La Rocha lunch at McDonalds. ZDLR was like "Americans are fat!" and started writing the lyrics he does today

/end random fake story

What have you got against Pink Floyd?

munky_magik 01-11-2005 01:01 PM
Feel free to read my Featured Artist: Rage Against The Machine thread at any time. :) It's rather good, if I say so myself, although I prefer my Pink Floyd one.

I know Tom Morello got quite pissed off when people lumped it as "the band's" political beliefs, and emphasised that, as individuals, they all had different ones, although him and Zack were, and still are, the most political. I think that none of them could be described as communists though, so much as socialists.
shows how much I know :p I just generally assumed that they all had sufficiently similar beliefs so they could be grouped as one.
Well, off to Google I go!
