i think theyre too different to compare
|
in my opinion:
animals>meddle>dsotm>wywh>the wall>patgod>ummagumma>saucerful>thats all i have |
The only thing I don't like about Animals is the song Pigs (3 different ones), it loses my attention after the first few minutes... but I love the rest of that album... Dogs and Sheep are amazing songs, with great solos too.
|
I love Animals. Animals, Meddle, The Wall, DSOTM...those are probably my favourites. I like Obscured by Clouds as well.
|
WYWH Is their best CD, in my opinion. Every song on it is just amazing. And its got my two favorite songs of all time (SOYCD and WYWH)
|
the band is quite fantansic, thats really what i think... o by the way which one is pink?
|
|
i think we can all agree that as brilliant as dave gilmour is/was, he is no watters when it comes to putting albums together...
|
Pink Floyd named themselves after two blues musicians: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council (this was back when they used to play bluesy stuff). So none of the the band memebers are pink or floyd
|
Um... whats your point? We all know that none of the members are named Pink or Floyd. I'm pretty sure everyone knew where the name came from. When LedPoisoning27 said that, he was quoting Have A Cigar, not actually asking a question.
|
Heh, I like how he knew that trivia, and didn't realize that those were Pink Floyd lyrics :p
I am gonna have no reputation any where I go :( |
I hate it when people just randomly post info, trying to act like their #1 fanboy.
|
I think it has something to do with insecurity. Or else just generally being moronic. It doesn't make you cool to like obscurities. I hate the people who say DSotM and The Wall were crap compared to say, Atom Heart Mother
|
I base my enitre life around DSOTM. I just think its the best thing to happen to music...its so perfect and original. I mean, what doesnt it have that makes a great album? Other than the cost...
but yeah, next to dark side - WYWH. Probably the most meaningful album made. and then Animals. The Wall is probably my least favorite, though it serves for a good story. Comfortably numb and ABITW are an exception, but the rest could be better. not the Floyd im used to |

Obviously they are "better" because they were hugely more sucessful. However, generally, the point is more to do with the fact that some people never go deeper than Dark Side. For instance, songs like echoes never get respect, and the two best things by them (in my opinion) would be Piper and WYWH. And no one gives piper any respect |
I respect all of Pink Floyd's work, but I just don't see how people can deliberately name some obscure Floyd song as the greatest purely to be an elitist.
|
I got Dark side of the moon playing on my record player right now :)
|

Cause elitism is teh pwnzor!!!lolz!!! I hate those kids so much. |
I know. "My favourite Pink Floyd song right now is Wish You Were Here".
OMG! Po5er! Th3 b3st ev3r is Cirrus Minor!!!!!!!!!11111111111one |
If you love Floyd, vote for them in the classic rock poll which is up now! The Final round~!

What the fuck did you say? I'm guessing you broke the fingers on one hand, and you're just mashing the keyboard with your fingers. |
I think Animals is a little under-rated...
It's my favorite album, you just HAVE TO LOVE Dogs, Pigs (Three Different Ones), and Sheep. All amazing songs, they blow my mind. |
everyone should take another look at pink floyds piper at the gates of dawn it is one of their greatest albums thanks to syd barrett
|
Everyone should read through this whole thread, or at least the latest posts.
|
i think that one of their long songs has to be their "greatest" which is truly immeasurable, but if i were to choose which one was the "most great" in terms of grandeur or something like that, it would be echoes or shine on you crazy diamond... absolutely musical masterpieces.

It's like people saying Led Zeppelin is overrated, or that the Yardbirds were (when Pagey was in) better than Zep. I like Sheep off of Animals...cause that's what people are...follow the shephard everyone. Pigs (3 diff ones) is great as well. I wonder if Mary is someone Waters dated? I voted for Floyd as well...even though Zep is my favourite band, I still think Pink Floyd was the most original, unbeatable, and just all around superior band. |
I hate it when people just randomly post info, trying to act like their #1 fanboy.
hey man i thought the bloke was asking a question ok im not their number 1 fanboy, arsehole. sorry if im not their #1 fan and dont every last frickin'detail about their lyrics <sarcasm> |
Please don't flame in my thread, kthx. :p
|
Anyone else in the UK see Top Gear, Nick Mason lends them his Ferrarri in exchange that they plug his new book, its so funny,
the presenters like 'Wish you were here!..this is the delicate sound of thunder, you just have to set the controls for the heart of the sun and you'll be on the dark side of the moon..' well he did a good job plugging the book  |
Yeh I saw that Listy, had me in stitches, looks a lot different nowadays though doesnt he, although i guess thats to be expected!
By the way my favourite Floyd album would have to be DSOTM, probably because that was the first album I listened to! But every album of theirs I have listened to is absolutely incredible, and I have listened to a lot! My favourite single song would have to be either SOYCD or Echoes, although at the minute I have San Tropez playing, cool song! With that in mind I have to agree with whoever said it first, that Floyd are better when listening to whole albums, I find it hard to listen to just one song and not the whole album! |
Mary is almsot certainly not someone Waters dated, that wouldn't fit the album at all. I think it's some politician's wife, IIRC.
I can't believe people skip such large parts of Echoes. I can understand skipping from about 10 minutes to 14 minutes, although I never could (it would ruin the flow of the song for me) but from 15 minutes to the end is the best music I've ever heard...starting from the pings coming back in... |

I'm not trying to be "cool" or "unique" when I say that, I just think that, on this forum especially, they're treated like God's gift to man. They're really good stuff and all, one of my favorite bands, but I don't think they hold a candle to The Beatles or Pink Floyd. |
i dont think you can, or should compare zeppelin and floyd
you can talk about specific things in comparison, but generalized, no anyways, i was going to ask people this maybe it seems like a stupid question, but is it true that contrary to popular belief, watters gilmour mason and wright didnt experiment with acid often? |
While I'm not sure about Gilmour, Mason and Wright, I am pretty sure that Waters experimented with more than just acid in his career.
|
Pink Floyd claims to not have been a drug orientated band, or more like Gilmour does. He says so in the DSOTM video...he also says you can trust them on that. Now, I listen to "set the controls for the heart of the sun" and I'm thinking...hmm? But then again, they were just an all out experimental band. Besides who give two ****s about wether they did drugs or not? No one questions the Beatles on that matter. It's just sad that people think Floyd is stoner music and it's cool because of that.
Here's something intresting I read...I'm not sure if it's true, but that sucks for them Discrimination anyone? |
Has anyone heard of "Dub Side of the Moon" by Easy Side Allstars. It is a Reggae version of Dark Side of the Moon and it is pretty good and accurate. I recamond checking it out if you like Floyd and Reggae. It's Worth it. Or at least i think so

yeah, me too. God Bless America? God HELP America. What is the world comming to where having a Pink Floyd or Zeppelin sticker is a reason to pull you over and search you for drugs. I don't really do drugs and I have stickers all over my car. Bastards.
