Well for one thing, I used to love them. It takes a while to mature musically. Other thing is I have a friend that loves them and he's always asking me to learn their ****.
And by the way, I meant that more to say that I have the ability to play all their songs, not that I already know how to play them all. I'm not trying to be conceited, not at all. I'm not very good actually, but that's more of what my point is.

Steerpike 07-03-2005 08:26 PM
i bet you could watch it all night, just imagine if this thread just stops lol, staring at a frozen screen all night long.
 Cute, but ineffectual. You want to try it again? I've still got some time to kill before practice.

James Van Halen 07-03-2005 08:33 PM

Your sarcasm amuses me

ok ok, so your bestest friend in the world luvs them. I wasn't saying that just because i like mudvayne, i actually don't like them it just sounds like a stupid thing to say lol "i can play all of their songs" that is a pretty weird thing to say, but i guess your answer was pretty reasonable :thumb:
1. 'poser' metal: slipknot, korn, ect
.
Alrighty then...time for me to rip you a new one. :)

Korn have been here since 1993 (or so). When they first came, they weren't trying to follow the stereotypes of the genre, or trying to fit in. They were ORIGINAL...no other band sounded like them at the time.

Course, after their first few albums, they plummeted off the deep end, but at the time, they were one of the most original bands out there today.

Slipknot...again, they were pretty original at the time. Even before their first widely released album, they were even more original...they experimented a lot more than other bands dared to. The masks? A marketing gimmick...plenty of bands have them. Take a look at black metal...a trademark of black metal today is corpse paint. Does this make the bands poser, just because they decide to wear heavy makeup? No. Is Slipknot poser because they wear masks? No. It may be a bit riduculous for some, but they have their own schtick, and they do it quite well.

Have a nice day. :) And do your research first.
In all fairness, that might be genuine ignorance, perpetrated at least in part by the media. I've seen bands like Green Day described as "punk legends" in magazines that really ought to know better. I'd say elements of being a "poser" only come in when you insist that you're right, ignoring people that actually know what they're talking about, and refusing to listen to people who are actually trying to help you.
ya, i used to think greenday and gc were punk, untill my friend jilly told me its not. and that changed my world forever, now i know that punk is bands like; the exploited, the casualties, and aus rotten. even though i just listen to a little bit of punk

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 09:40 PM

I listin to bands like Metallica, Rammstine, Megadeth, Korn, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest. Although metal is my favrite type of music I also like bands like GC, Simple Plan, and Green Day. I think thats because of the overwellming population of preps in my town. :upset: Does this make me a poser?

If you like certain bands, no.

However, if you claim these bands are your favorite, and think you're oh so hardcore because of it, or claim they have the most talent and are the best band ever, even though you don't have a song by them to your name, then yes, you are a poser.

No. Just means you're not overly picky about what you listen to.

Exactly. Being a poser involves a mindset, not what bands you listen too. Someone can like Blink 182 and not be a poser, but if they say "i r00l blink iz t3h hardc0re punkz!!!!!!1111111", then they are a poser.

Quoted for truth.

I like Blink-182 also...its good happy music once in awhile.

Good to have something simple to listen to occasionally.

He has an opinion...nothing wrong with that.

When he forces others to believe with him in his opinion, THEN there is a problem.

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 09:52 PM

true

The Buttloaves 07-03-2005 09:54 PM

"I like Children of Bodom. Bed of Razors is their best song"
then you instantly know it's the only song they have because they accidentally downloaded it while getting Good Charlotte

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 09:55 PM

whats with all the slipknot bashing anyway? What makes them sellouts? Its just music.

Steerpike 07-03-2005 09:59 PM

I just find Slipknot to be obnoxious garbage with nothing particularly musically interesting. I never really say them as anything groundbreaking or even special to begin with.

Not in relation to the music, but I also think their singer is a pretentious ass.

Anyway, that's just my stance. I feel that the American metal scene has watered down significantly since the explosive surfacing of the death metal scene in the late 80's. There are still good bands here, but they're getting harder and harder to find.

yeah Corey said their 3 albums were the best albums of all time.

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 10:01 PM

thats why all the old metal bands like Judas Priest and Motley Crue are coming back. They dont like what we have to listin to nowadays.

I wouldn't go that far. I think it's more the fact that since metal is becoming popular again, record companies are willing to promote them more.

Are you saying metal today is garbage? That is very wrong; Slipknot is a total disgrace to most of the metal out there.

I like a lot of new metal. Especially the New Wave of American Heavy metal minus Slipknot and Killswitch Engage. So that leaves....Lamb of God and Shadows Fall.... :upset:
at least according to my friend's Guitar One, those are the 4 bands heading the NWOAM

Steerpike 07-03-2005 10:06 PM

Speaking of new metal, I posted two mp3s of Lunatica in the Up and Coming Bands thread. Proof that metal is not dead or dying. It's merely gone underground.

The Buttloaves 07-03-2005 10:07 PM

yeah.

Starship 07-03-2005 10:07 PM

A "poser" is a person who attempts to blend into a specific social group..
i.e. Someone who hears one Pink Floyd song and goes out to buy a tshirt. From Hot Topic of course!

But, People who listen to Slipknot, etc. etc. aren't posers if they actually listen to the music and enjoy it. Although I don't know how you could. -_-

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 10:09 PM

dont bet me wrong. I do like new metal. I just like the older stuff better

Steerpike 07-03-2005 10:11 PM
dont bet me wrong. I do like new metal. I just like the older stuff better
How much of the new stuff have you heard?

Metalhead1409 07-03-2005 10:12 PM

The Buttloaves 07-03-2005 10:14 PM

Metaljonus 07-03-2005 10:15 PM
