Armor for Sleep - Dream to Make Believe
Well people talk about this band a bit, but I've never heard any of their stuff, so I have kinda high expectations, we'll see how it's met ;) Starts out laid back for about 2 measures, then distortion comes on, same riff again. Singer sounds a little bit like the guy from Thursday I think, but not as good. In fact this sounds pretty similar to Thursday to me as far as it all goes. Not as good though imo. I actually don't like the singer that much, he's not a bad singer, but his voice just isn't quite right I don't think. It's a little bit on the generic side, but so is most of this style of music, so that's ok. I think I'd listen to this with a different vocalist, but the current one isn't my style really. There was some depth in the music, but it could have done more with vocal harmonies. I also couldn't really hear the bass, it could be mixed higher. Drums and guitar were good and fit the style fine. 7/10 Rcommendations coming. |

Five Iron Frenzy - Cool Enough For You
The song starts with some pretty cool horns, and after the intro it comes an also cool bass line with the usual skankin guitar around there. So the vocals enter not much later. I don't really like the vocals, but they're not bad. The song goes on with the same bass line, vocals and the horns in a repeated verse thing, and then a chorus when vocals and horns change a bit. The song goes on like this until it suddenly stops. Then the guitar enters palm muting, followed by the bass and then the horns. Until then I thought...It says ska/punk, when is punk coming here? And then the guitar kicks in with the distortion and the bass line changes while the vocals go on a catchy lalalala. It is a good song, but I've heard much better ska songs. Overall... 7.5/10 My recommendations (they are coming): Toy Dolls - Tocatta In D Moll (Bach cover :)) (Classical/Punk) The Filaments - Bastard Coppers (Street punk with horns) this band is also known as awesomness in a bottle. EDIT: dibs... |
The Filaments-Bastard Coppers
The intro is nice. I like how it starts with everyone playing, then just the cymbal tap and the very nice horns. That continues for two measures, I believe. The singer reminds me very much of the lead singer for the Descendents. I think the ska guitar rythm is cool. The verse makes me want to dance. The refrain is alright, not my favorite. They could use more words for the refrain, instead of just Bastard Coppers. But the horns in this song are very good. The little solo/bridge is cool. I would want to learn it on guitar. The part where they just say Fuck the pigs is cool. It reminds me of when everyone would just start screaming it at the top of their lungs. Overall I like this song. Its reminiscent of two-tone ska and street punk, like Albert said. I really like the drum beat, it reminds me of a jazzish beat. I would give it a 8/10. Is that a good review? If so, recommendations coming soon. Amber Pacific-For What Its Worth(harder pop-punk, I think. Butch Walker - Alicia Amnesia
It starts off with some drums, then a heavy, funky guitar riff come in. when the vocals come in, chunky palm muted chords play. The vocals are very cool imo, something different, quite rough. The run down is more melodic, and the singing is less rough. The guitar is playing slow chords over the instruments. Then just before the chorus, is a quiet, palm muted chords playing over him whispering, probably my favourite part of the song, it builds up the chorus well. Then the chorus kicks in and it’s quite fast, loud and distorted. With very catchy lyrics, i like it.The verse plays again, same order. Until a solo comes in, with funky music playing in the background, it’s nothing too hard but nice anyway. It slows down, and goes quite for a second and then the chorus starts again. Then a great echoey effect takes place with lots of different voices singing, and then the end of the chorus is repeated over until the end. Overall, i loved the song, it kept me listneing and wasn't too predictable, the vocals were really great, and it was the first song i've heard from him/them. |

Alkaline Trio called

ok The opening guitaars are nice and set the song well. I like this guys vocals better than the other Alk3 guy. The drums in the background keep the song going. The guitar keeps the beat, and the harmonies are great. When it breaks and has just the lyrics is a nice touch, then the lead back to the song is good too. The guitar parts between the verses are fun to listen to. The lyrics fit nicely.
The song seemas a little repetitive in the end, it seems its the same guitar and other parts, but then it breaks to a guitar lead underneath lyrics. Then the finishing music closes the song very well. Overall it isn't the best Alkaline Trio song, but it is a very fun song to listen to. 7/10 Links The Rasmus- In My Life http://s5.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/0312ac4e404fe5c5/ Daniel Lioneye- The King of Rock & Roll http://s5.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/b92968e7b4f616a9/ Switchfoot- Chem 6a http://s5.ultrashare.net/hosting/fs/52a477f18ed82c8a/ |

Manic Street Preachers - Faster
It begins a very odd intro. Someone talking quite quitely and then another noise, then it quickly rushes into the full song. I like the way it starts, and when the vocals kick in, it sounds a lot more hectic. The vocals aren't too amazing, they sound good in places I suppose. The chorus is very good with a nice guitar melody and the fast-paced drumming track. Again, I'd say the only thing that ruins this is the vocals. After this, it goes into a "pre-verse" part. The guitar in the verse sounds weird, very old, and kinda creeped me out. Then there's another verse and chorus. They flow together very well, and the song keeps it's energy up all the way through. It then heads into a bridge. The solo is really great for a rock band like this, and is long enough to keep me entertained. Overall, I liked this song a lot. There was a lot of variety in the music, and the drumming and guitar riffs flowed together fantastically. The only thing that ruined it was the vocals, which sounded quite bad at some places (Especially the chorus). 7/10, would've been 8/10 but the vocals took it down 1 |

Jack's Mannequin - I'm Ready
Starts out with spoken words “And today was a day just like any other,” followed by a piano, which leads immediately into the first verse. The vocals are strong and fit well with the piano piece. The song speeds up a bit, and becomes more upbeat, when it hits the chorus. At around 2:30, another spoken piece enters into the background. The spoken words blend in with the singers voice when it resumes. The speaking adds to the impact of the song, because the words are very powerful. The song ends with repetition of the words “I’m Ready”, followed by a short piano outro. Overall, I thought the song was pretty amazing. The vocals and piano flowed effortlessly throughout the whole song. It is a great example of an excellent piano-rock song, although that is to be expected from a man as talented as Andrew McMahon. 9/10 |
Yeah that was good, although you should add a rating from 1-10, but the detail was decent
