There is no third guitarist anymore.

EDIT: IMO they never needed a third guitarist all they needed / wanted was a new gimmick, Buckethead's bucket kinda replaced Slash's top hat.

Excursions 09-22-2005 01:28 AM

Good read, it would have been good if you had mentioned about Duff being in The Fartz before going to join Gunners but still great profile.
Wow, Slash's Snakepit rocks. Maybe even moreso than old GN'R.

By the way, Axl was also the name of the band Axl and Izzy were in back in Indiana. And he also kept the William. His full name is W. Axl Rose.
I believe the band's name was Hollywood Rose, but i'm not positive.

BTW great FA. I love the (old) Guns.

Lupus 09-22-2005 07:09 PM

Nah, Hollywood Rose came about when they came to LA. (Izzy left first, then Axl came) Actually I'm not even sure if Izzy was in the band Axl but I am sure that Axl was in a band called Axl before he left Indiana and before he changed his name.

Wow, that's actually a little confusing.

clairvoyant 09-22-2005 07:29 PM
. Buckethead was just a live guitarist and pretty much all he does is solo's through the entire song. His departure was neither good or bad considering he was only used on the tour..
Nah he recorded stuff on Chinese Democracy...

Thank you very much. I think this thread (other then the Glam Rock/Hair Metal thread) is the only real safe haven to discuss Guns N' Roses around here. Shame their isn't much to discuss though due to all the secrecy and moving around behind-the-scenes with Chinese Democracy.

Kyle 10-21-2005 12:59 PM

I think except the die hard fans everyone has gotten really pissed off with G'n'R. But nobody really flames in FA threads because people put so much effort into them, I remember when you first did this it's a really good read.
I think except the die hard fans everyone has gotten really pissed off with G'n'R. But nobody really flames in FA threads because people put so much effort into them, I remember when you first did this it's a really good read.
Well, I doubt most people care much about GnR anymore (at least, not enough to bother flaming them anymore other then die hard fans that got tired of waiting). I've ceased caring about all that petty stuff because in the end, it's just about the music. If GnR never release another album, so what? I've still got the classics to listen to from time to time to remind me why they're my favourite band. However, I would be a little pissed that Axl dirtied the GnR name with all this Chinese Democracy mess.

Kyle 10-21-2005 01:45 PM

Yeah, In a perfect world I think after the original line up split, Axl should have formed a new band under a new name, that way we could just enjoy the music without having to think about how it's not G'n'R.

I think if Chinese Democracy ever does come out it will be better than Contraband, because I just don't really like VR lyrics at all. That being said I am expecting better things from VR's follow up though.

Cipher Hour 10-21-2005 02:01 PM

Heh, well guys it doesn't bother me that Axl is using the GnR name either, it bothers me that he uses it and then drags it through the mud by not releasing anything after a ridiculous amount of time. For sure if CD comes out it'll blow Contraband out of the water (but then again, that's not exactly a hard thing to do) and I hope for VR's sake they come out with a much better follow up album.

Anyway, on a more positive note (according to recent rumours) Axl has apparently lost the braids. Sad that Axl changing his look is all I really have to say about the band right now other then the other members of the band have been given an order of silence about GnR (and thus have stop answering fan questions).

Kyle 10-21-2005 02:11 PM

I forgot about that site, It's the only one which still posts news really reguarly.

Oh wait.

Yeah. Sorry, useless rant. Anyhow, they were good, the happy side of grunge, I guess.

blue3 10-21-2005 04:51 PM

Yeah, same here. I'm looking forward to the new Velvet Revolver CD. VR's lyrics are alright, some make no sense though.

3333th post. :)

It depends really on what you're expecting from Axl. If you're expecting more progressive/experimental kind of stuff CD probably won't disappoint (assuming it ever gets released) whereas if you're expecting Appetite For Destruction: The Sequel there's a 100% chance of being disappointed. Although to be honest, I don't think it's going to be nearly as industrial as people think (I think the industrial direction was just a short phase Axl had).

Oh well, can't judge till we see it.

Personally I'd be dissapointed if they released another album like Appetite, it's an excellent album but I think bands need to evolve and change styles. I guess I'm one of the few that are still really looking forward to this new album.
