Still don't know who Brad Wilk is :upset:
/Awaits flaming
The drummer, Unless I'm greatly mistaken |
lol only member I don't know
/Goes and checks Ah so he is... |
He's the drummer for Rage...really underrated I think. Sure, he's not fast or anything like that, but in terms of his beats, and hip-hop influenced style, he's quite different from most rock drummers. And he works very well with Tim Commerford in the rhythm section.
Him and Timmy C always lay down a really solid Groove I think.they work great as a team and really lock in well together |
^^deffinetly
Timmy C's a wicked bassist and Wilk gets to play a solid wicked groove all day (lucky b*tch) |
^^deffinetly
Timmy C's a wicked bassist and Wilk gets to play a solid wicked groove all day (lucky b*tch)
IMO Brad Wilk was nothing special, even though I am a huge RATM fan. He did what needed to be done, but never really did anything that made my jaw drop. |
^^yeh well he wasn't meant to do ne thing "amazing"
Just to keep a satisfied groove that fit, and he did a great job of it |
Whilst we are unfortunately on the topic, To me Tom lost half of his innovativness in Audioslave. He mostly relied on effects for his solos and didn't really create anything new in any other way. His riffs were the only thing that remained good about him in Audioslave, and even they pale in comparison to those he did in RATM.
Now Please; NO MORE MENTIONS OF AUDIOSLAVE IN HERE!!
Dude, besides on the self titled album all he did was use effects for solos...Besides Audioslaves album was recorded in a hurry he only had like 3/4's of a year to come up with riffs and solos...I bet you on the new slave album his solos will kick major ***...(sorry about bringing audioslave back) |
well straight away on Bulls Parade from Evil Empire he didn't use an effect. And in RATM generally alot of his solos were less effects based than in Audioslave.
|
WRONG. I was ganna mention how he didn't use effects in the bulls one but then I remebered this video clip I saw. Heres exactly how he does it (I saw an interview with him and he showed how he does some of his solos including bulls, guerrilla, and sleep now):
First you turn the bridge pickup volume to 10 and the other to 0 then use the killswitch Technique then you add some "white noise" (he steps on a pedal that was not shown in the video) then he does the scratching... I'd love to somehow get this video for everyone to see...but have no idea how to. |
well the solo wouldn't really be the same or as good if he only stepped on the pedal now would it?
And the inclusion of the killswitch and scratching is what I'm talking about, his solos in Rage weren't totally reliant on effects. |
No, but the solo wouldn't have been as good if he wouldn't have stepped on the pedal... your right man I'm agreeing with you, he needs his effects in audioslave solos more then in rage but I'm just saying that in rage he needed them to.
Audioslave solo without effects - I am the highway (though once live he used a wah and it sounded wicked), Getaway car...those are the only that come to mind I haven't listened to that cd for a while. oh yeah theres show me how to live to he does something with the toggle switch... and the mini solos in Cochise... :thumb: |
the intro to Cochise is just slap back delay and muted strings, the solo is just normal playing with a hint of dealy.
And I think I am the highway is just done with delay and a ring modulator or some strange effect. |
if you play the bassline to 'bombtrack', and then the bassline to 'cochise', they are stupidly similiar in placing and key...
|
the majority of Tom's/Tim's riffs are written using the same scale, and in the same key.
|
Yeah Tom's said it before he's not big on theory. Well more so in audioslave then rage, but still.
|
tom morelo has some crazy riffs
|
You don't need theory to be able to use different scales.
I'm not complaining though, from basically 1 scale and 2 tunings Tom's work has never bored me. |
Tom Morello can come up with some crazy riffs by only using standard tuning and drop D. He never fails to amaze me.
|
What I'm saying is he just stays on the same frets and same strings most of the time I'm sure he doesn't care what scale hes useing or what key hes in...though he'll know when notes don't fit or whatever.

Okay, lets take gurellia radio( sorry about the spelling if wrong) and look at the lyrics Transmission third world war third round A decade of the weapon of sound above ground No shelter if youre looking for shade I lick shots at the brutal charade As the polls close like a casket On truth devoured Silent play in the shadow of power A spectacle monopolized The cameras eyes on choice disguised Was it cast for the mass who burn and toil? Here's something nice and friendly, Here's something nice and friendly, Here's something nice and friendly, and it goes something like this. **** tha police, Comin straight from the underground. Young nigga got it bad cuz I'm brown, And not the other color so police think, They have the authority to kill a minority. **** that ****, cuz I ain't tha one, For a punk mutha ****a with a badge and a gun, To be beatin on, and throwin in jail.
Didn't Zach go off and fight with Mexico against America or something? That's what a friend told me
To me that sounds like punk
For something to sound like punk, wouldnt you actually have to hear it? Pink Floyd was writing punkish songs lyrically, maybe with a bit more talent, but they were still punk souding. See the entire album "Animals." However, just because something is politically driven doesn't mean it's punk. |
Man i gotta venture out of the guitar forums more! i love all of Toms work and for all those that say he only uses the blues scale in D and E, it doesnt matter because the way he uses the notes and timing means his riff never get stale. In terms of albums st>ee>r>bola but i rate all of them over 9/10. Zach left because he saw the VMA insedent as the last straw.

I like BOLA the best personally, Born of a Broken Man is a beautiful song. I'm pretty sure most of their stuff is pentatonic, haven't really dissected it however so I could be wrong.
|
I heard some where that Kashmir by Led Zeppelin and Wake up by Rage have similiarities, are they similar riffs or what?
similar yes, but they are not the same, Kashmir has three chords, while Wake Up has two. And thank you for not saying "OMFG RaGe CopIeD ZePPlIn" |
