Well I understand that your comment was made for humour and I did chuckle a bit at it, but believe me this isn't meant to be a dick measuring contest, and I quite like guitarists and guitar solos.

I agree that solos are integral to many bands and musical styles but they are still very subjective in nature.
Music is not something that can be justified or proven fully. You either like somethig or you dont. Since solos are a part of music, why debate it? The conclusions are still the same.

I think I have a missunderstanding, because I have only heard Highway Star preformed live on a video I have. Maybe he was just improvising, but on the performance I have, he is just hitting the whammy bar and playing sloppy licks.

This thread is extremly gay. Don't bag on other guitar player's solos, just because they aren't some sweep picking wank fest that gives you losers a hardon. Except that other guitar players play differently, and stop acting like a bunch of tools.

blink-182 is a boyband that happens to play instruments. And they dont play them very well.

The guitar solo on that Nirvana song "Breed" is just one headache-inducing feedback note. Awful. It pains me when I see a guitar magazine calling one of his little lead-fingered noises a "solo." Mike McCready could play a cooler one with his *** while wasted.

Megadeth - "Something I'm Not" Has to be mentioned! It's a good solo...but the riff from Rising Force by Malmsteen...... just doesn't fit!!! And I totally agree on the whole Kurt Cobain thing! Nirvana's music wasn't that bad but I ****ing hate them because they (and other bands at that time and in that genre) started the movement of ****ty *** solos! **** YOU NIRVANA!

Guess what? He's inspired countless numbers of kids to play guitar, and his solos fit Nirvana perfectly. What makes a good guitar player? The ability to play arpeggios at 300 bpm? Anybody with decent dexterity can lock themselves in a room and practice for 10 hours a day and eventually play like Petrucci or Vai. I don't necessarily think he was an excellent guitarist, or even a good one, but he certainly wasn't BAD. He played grunge, for christs sake, and noisy, sloppy solos were just how Nirvana sounded.
