MAthiAS 08-18-2004 07:53 PM

meh, Anthrax, Testament, and Megadeth is awesome in itself, fuck Slayer and Metallica

Deadsy 08-18-2004 07:57 PM

Yea, in the new guitar world, it had Mustaine talking about how Kerry hates his guts and that he needs some help. Also, they have a little interview with Poland, its pretty cool.

monkey_chops23 08-18-2004 08:02 PM

I'm new to megadeth, but I've always been interested in listening to their stuff. What would the single best ablum be to start off with if I was to go buy one?

MothEatenDeerHead213 08-18-2004 08:07 PM

Rust In Peices.

I personaly think Mustaine has one of the best Metal voices

Floydfanatic 08-18-2004 08:11 PM

dave mustaine is awfull marty friedmen is the only reason they were good.

Deadsy 08-18-2004 08:39 PM
dave mustaine is awfull marty friedmen is the only reason they were good.
Yea, because Marty writes all the songs and everything.

bassplayer18 08-19-2004 01:31 AM

hey guys! think how about awesome metallica would've been if dave mustaine didn't have a drinking/drug problem and was never kicked out of metallica. i think dave's song writing abilities combined with james song writing abilities would have been.... amazing. and not only that, think about how much of a better band metallica would have been in general if cliff didn't die!!! basically what im saying is, think about how much it would kick ass if the line up was always james, dave, cliff and lars.

and i have a question, who does the solos on holy wars (including the little gypsy part) and hangar 18? is it marty? because those solos kick major ass!!!!

flappersack 08-19-2004 03:54 AM

I'm glad mustaine got kicked out of metallica, cos if he didnt, megadeth wouldnt exist!
Megadeth Pwns!

Triangle 08-19-2004 04:17 AM

exactly. Metallica would of been completly different if Mustain stayed...

GraveRobbersINC 08-19-2004 10:12 AM

Does anyone know of any songs Dave Mustaine uses a Tremolo bar on, I was reading something from a guitar player and he says he's pretty against the use of them.

Mega_Dave 08-19-2004 04:33 PM
and i have a question, who does the solos on holy wars (including the little gypsy part) and hangar 18? is it marty? because those solos kick major ***!!!!
Friedman plays all the solos in Holy Wars except for the last one, that's Mustaine's and in Hangar 18 Friedman plays most of them except for a few.

i'd recomend getting cowntdown to extinction, followed by rust in peace. If u havnt heard much megadeth, then Daves vocals on rust in peace might put u off the band. Get cowntdown, and after u have "aquired" a taste for daves vocals get rust in peace, and there earlyer stuff - they rock :thumb:

bassplayer18 08-20-2004 01:47 AM

true metallica would've sounded alot different if mustaine stayed, but they would sound different in a good way!

Mega_Dave 08-20-2004 02:22 PM

They definetly would have been faster and more thrashy.

Reidie86 08-20-2004 06:16 PM
They definetly would have been faster and more thrashy.
i agree with the faster call. "the four horsemen" -> "mechanix" The speed difference is huge

Five Magics 08-20-2004 10:44 PM
Yea, in the new guitar world, it had Mustaine talking about how Kerry hates his guts and that he needs some help.
Didn't Kerry try out for Megadeth way back when Dave first started trying to form the band?

Kingofdudes 08-21-2004 10:39 AM
Didn't Kerry try out for Megadeth way back when Dave first started trying to form the band?
He played a few gigs with them back when they were first starting out, but Kerry said he would never have joined the band.

FatalEnergy 08-21-2004 11:31 AM

Dave could kick Kerry's ***

Mega_Dave 08-21-2004 09:07 PM
i agree with the faster call. "the four horsemen" -> "mechanix" The speed difference is huge
Same with every single other Megadeth song compared to a Metallica song, Megadeth is much faster overall compared to them. That's another reason why Dave and James didn't get along, James wanted everything to be slower and Dave wanted to take thrash metal in a new direction and be faster and more technical.

i chose "the four horsemen" and "mechanix" as an example of the speed difference, cos bar the into "mechanix", and the interlude to the 4 horsmen, they're pretty much identical. The only thing that makes them different is the speed difference (and lyrics)

I guess so, he has a friggin black belt and does judo and stuff.

I dont think people give poland eneough credit tho, i mean he writes such awesome solos, some better than marty i find because the ones poland did sort of fit better and sounded more metally. Whereas marty gets really technical and starts wandering keys and doing relatives and then starts making other guitarists feel bad when they watch the notes fly by in powertab.

And i think we should really thank poland for doing such a huge contribution to writing alot of solos on this new album, which i cant ****ing wait to hear

Five Magics 08-21-2004 10:57 PM

Chris Poland is amazing! The work he produced on KIMB and PSBWB is unbelieveable. But I still prefer Marty though. I think its all because of Rust In Peace, the lineup on there was the best ever. Which brings me to my next point, which Megadeth lineup was your favourite and least favourite?

Mustaine/Ellefson/Samuelson/Poland
Mustaine/Ellefson/Behler/Young <-----Least Favourite
Mustaine/Ellefson/Menza/Friedman <-----Favourite
Mustaine/Ellefson/Degrasso/Pitrelli

Agreed. Chris Poland wrote some memorable solos such as my last words, I can't stop listening to that solo. He sertainly isn't better than freindman but many of his solos are great. To bad he Isn't actually back in MegaDeth although, I like his Solo work on Kick the Chair.
I think this thread is failing :(. Whats your favorite Megadeth album?
RUST IN PEACE! Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars....The Punishment Due, Hangar 18, man what an AWESOME CD!

Reidie86 08-21-2004 11:58 PM

Mustaine/Ellefson/Samuelson/Poland
Mustaine/Ellefson/Behler/Young

i dont have a least favourite, and i like the line up on SFSGSW. The Mustaine/Friedman/Meza/Ellefson lineup is probly my favourite, but at the same time they were also the lineup that recorded risk  (degrasso only toured with that album...... i think thats correct).

I liked the Mustaine/Ellefson/Degrasso/Pitrelli line up, not as much as Mustaine/Ellefson/Menza/Friedman or Mustaine/Ellefson/Samuelson/Poland, but i thaught it was a preety darn solid lineup.

yeah, agreed. Just watching the Rude Awakening DVD , that lineup was amazing on it, but at times a kind of wish that Menza and Friedman were there instead, but Degrasso and Pitrelli do an excellent job on there regardless
