I'm trying to keep to keep this thread alive!!

What does everyone think of My Arms, Your Hearse?

At first, it was my least favorite, but When and April Etherial are just incredible, as well as the most popular Demon of the Fall

xDeViAnTx 08-10-2004 01:58 PM

Its a fairly good album, but April Ethereal and When are brilliant songs...

Still Life was the album that introduced me to Opeth, but I wasn't a fan until I heard My Arms, Your Hearse. Which is by far my favorite Opeth album.

MAYH is great, the tracks u mentioned are some of my favourite..the ending to Demon of the fall is soooo good, great album :thumb:

methodlessman 08-10-2004 03:10 PM

I'm crazy about the ending to April Ethereal. I love it. Epilogue would probably be my second favorite track on the album.

Phil Anselmo 08-10-2004 04:30 PM

my favorite Opeth albums are Still Life and Blackwater Park. White Cluster i think has the best Opeth guitar solo...ever. That song is INCREDIBLE

bucket 08-10-2004 05:18 PM

Someone want to write Blackwater Park's review? It's the only Opeth album left to review :D Good job to those who wrote reviews :thumb:

IvortheEngineDriver 08-10-2004 09:35 PM

Ahhh, Soon enough...I know that if I do it, someone else would do it before hand.

Okay...new question:

What do you think Opeth will look for with this new album? Will they continue the ****ation trend or will they go back to more metal...or both :) What do you all think?

Man, I suck at keeping this going, where the **** is Flynn? She's better at this ;)

MetalHead8666 08-10-2004 09:55 PM
Yeah I agree. I shouldn't of posted this it's a Cliche'. lol
But..in the turn of events, Black Sabbath did start metal. I can't argue that. I am talking OLD Black Sabbath...They started the Twin lead thing and the famous E, D, C chord progression. Metallica copied a lot of their styles and a lot of other songs they didn't even write. I despise Metallica, In fact I LOATHE them. I should'nt capitalize the "m" in metallica anymore cause that would give that name respect...I would want that now...

"Granted you a hollow stare, another soul within the divine herd..." -Opeth(Black Rose Immortal)
Kudos to you for noticing opeth, they are truly an amazing band. With that said, im not all to happy with your bashing of possible the greatest metal band in history, Metalllica. While Black Sabbath founded heavy metal, Metallica defined it, and that is no doubt. While their past couple of albums have been unsatisfactory, they are still teh defintive force they have always been. I was fortunate to see them live at floor level, and i must say, after 24 years, they can still deliver a force of metal that is powerful. So, sorry Fylnn, but withour Mtallica, Opeth would not be around today

They've said ****ation was just an experiment. The metal is coming. :D

Opeth's forum is pretty good to go to every now and then. Mikael posts on it once in a while.
:D

Same here. Since they Hail from Sweden, It's hard to find out about them. I live in Iowa so you can just about immagine lol. just think of all the bands out there that aren't signed...
Me too, whereabouts in iowa?

And i think that blackwater is my favorite album of all time, I think ive played along to The Leper Affinity at least 2 hunder times now.

TheLorax42 08-10-2004 10:51 PM

Also, somebody who never gets enough attention is the bassist, mendez. Listen to the song blackwater park, his playing (especially the slap section) is phenomonal.

That'd be a difficult review...it'd be so hard to write a review worthy of that album. I mean...how do you put into words how landmark of an album that is?

"Uuhh....it rocks! Yeah..."

Haha, you are gushing...I can tell you just found Opeth, I think that's everyone's reaction! :)

sickgoregrind 08-11-2004 07:52 AM

Supposedly Opeth's new album is gunna be a lot more black metal orientated than their last couple of masterpieces.
Let's hope.

Morningrise> Blackwater Park

I think BWP could be better. Harvest isn't that great. In fact, I don't really like it at all.

Morningrise, however... :thumb:

That would be interesting considering Opeth has never played a black metal riff in their lives

sickgoregrind 08-11-2004 08:14 AM

My Arms, Your Hearse is my favourite opeth album.

'April Ethereal', the mighty 'When' and of course the classic and ultimate opeth track 'Demon of the Fall'.

For me, this album contains all the classic elements that make opeth's sound so unique and i find myself playing it more than any other Opeth cd, even more than Morningrise.

Det_Nosnip 08-11-2004 08:14 AM

Eh...parts of the Leper Affinity are Blackish. I hope that they don't go....TOO black, I like them for what they are.

That's a stretch man haha. I dont see them actually playing black metal, i mean even if you go to their webpage and look at the bands they listen to, black metal just isn't in their repitoire
Avatar, lost paradise

Are you a fan of the band Paradise Lost?

sickgoregrind 08-11-2004 08:21 AM

I got the info about Opeth intergrating black metal into their sounds from 'the making of deliverance and ****ation' on the Lamentations dvd.

On this Akerfelt clearly states that they have been listening to a lot more black metal in preparation for their new album.

They wouldn't listen to more black metal if they were going to do a melodic death metal album.

Yes, i am a huge fan of Paradise Lost, hence my avatar of Nick Holmes.

but they did mention that they were incorporating black metal, and who knows maybe they have been listening to black metal, just like someone mentioned earlier. Personally I'd rather have their signature sound on their next album, and more of a technical sound as well, but opeth is opeth and I personally enjoy all their stuff.

That's cool...that's what I thought. They're a pretty cool band...I'm a big fan of the "Draconian Times" album. Hardly get any attention here on the forums, though, which was why I was surprised.

Kaiwaz 08-12-2004 06:22 PM
i hate opeth
 they suck
and any one who likes them is a fag
Whoa. That was to the point...And just tell me, Oh great one, Why we are Fags for liking Opeth? You must certainly have a reason. I am guessing you listen to Korn, Diana Ross, Grand Funk Railroad, Dave Mathews Band, Ashlee Simpson and KISS. I am also guessing you are around 14 years old and an only child with no father forcing your inner turmoyl to thrive on dressing up in Mommies clothes. I am guessing you like to collect Barbie Dolls. If you think Opeth sucks, has no talent or is "Gay" then...you fit into this category.

Exactly, I garauntee Opeth's next LP will be Fierce. That's the only word I can describe it as.
