Yes - Roundabout
I've never actually listened to any Yes. Let's see how it goes. Based on first listen, this song is tight. Some parts in there I wasn't digging quite as much (the really classic rock sounding bits) but some parts.....They are HOT. The intro and the bit where the lyrics are "...roundabout...". The acoustic guitar parts are really awesome. I also like the keys. They have that 70's spaceage feel. It's like Bowie backing classical guitar. The flutes are another favorite part. That part reminds me of The Who meets The Doors. As far as musicians go, the bassist strikes me as the best at his game. All of them are exceptional but the bassist is the standout. The singer is decent but not up to par with the restof the band. The guitarist is also very impressive especially when he busts out the classicalness. The drums don't really jump out at me but I thin that has more to do with the mix than anything else. Difinitive prog right here. I don't know if I'll go out of my way to listen to it as I don't like classic rock and this has a lot of that in it but it is very well done. 8.75/10 Sloth - Someday (nu-metal) Shinedown - 45 (nu-metal) Linkin Park - Forgotten (nu-metal/rap metal) Take the nu-ness! bitches! |
I guess I could use some nu-metal. So dibs

Sweet a fast download.
Sloth- Someday Can't say I've ever heard of them. Starts with a little guitar ditty then the drums come in picking up pace. Then everything comes in. The song is like a tug of war between the cool heavy parts and the crappy wimpy parts. The singer is also like the rest of the songs torn between sounding cool and whinning. He matches the music. The heavy parts kick in every so often enough to kinda keep my attention. This is one of those songs that if they did the heavy part the whole time it would rock, but the soft part sucks to much for it to be a really good song. Also it seems like the chorus is repeated for the whole song, the lyrics lack any substance. It could have been a good song, but I don't think it is so I won't be looking for anymore of their stuff. I give the song a 3/10 just for the harder parts of the song. Venom-In League with Satan (old school Black Metal) Dream Theater- Pull me Under (Rock) As I Lay Dying- Forever (Metal) Death- The Crystal Mountain (Metal, might qualify for black metal) Black Label Society- Life/Birth/Blood/Doom |
Revoked. Sorry... :upset:

Bump. I'm too busy right now.
|
Dibs, then.

I've heard of this band before, but not heard anything by them.
As I Lay Dying - Forever - 4:15 Starts off with a little drum intro which is pretty good. Vocals come in pretty soon, and I'm not really impressed by them. They're harsh, which I don't mind, but they sound really half-arsed, and pretty soon there are some awful backing vocals. The guitars I like though. The riff they're playing isn't exactly crushing, but I like it, and they're pretty much carrying the song for me at the moment. I can pick out the bass, but it's not doing anything I like, and the vocals, as I've said, aren't impressing me. The drums are another plus point, however. There's some pretty good rolls and fills being played, and it's not dominating the song like many drummers try to, rather just supporting it. The song goes somewhat mellow around 3:00; all the instruments ease off for some slower guitar playing to take centre place, and the vocals stop. Everything slowly builds back in - I've heard it done better, but it's not bad. Well, it wasn't bad, just not the kind of thing I'd listen to. I wish they'd get a new vocalist too. 6.5/10 Would I listen to more of the same band? Probably not, based on this. Songs: Arghoslent - The Purging Fires of War or Incorrigible Bigotry (instrumental) (melodic death metal) Mannhai - Spender (stoner rock) The Beta Band - Dry the Rain (alt. rock/folk - Beck fans apply here) EDIT: more, since Superpeer's online. Ben Harper - When it's Good or Like a King Blues Traveler - Optimistic Thought Xavier Rudd - 9 Times a Day |
Dibs. :upset:

"Arghoslent - The Purging Fires of War or Incorrigible Bigotry"
Are you sure you spelled the band's name right? Maby you wanna send me the songs via ICQ, or e-Mail, or something? I wanna hear this, but I only got to listen to Kreator's things today, while I started downloading it yesterday... And didn't like it that much... Anyways, I would take the dibs if you sent the song to me... |
Too late. :p
|
Still... I'd at least listen to those, without critics... I wanna listen to some new things, my 5+ GB collection of music is just not that much when you possibly know every song by heart... :)

Ben Harper - Like a king

When I was on soulseek I realized that Ben Harper and The innocent criminals were on a festival I went to but I didn't go and see them. :amaze: The song : Drum intro, pretty funky. Guitars and vocals come in, semi-ambient. The vocals aren't very special at the moment. Then the chorus comes, sounds somewhat, the chorus is pretty good and the vocals seem to get better, they're growing on me. Second chorus get some bass backing vocals, sounds weird, but not bad, I just don't listen much to this kind of music, that's why it sounds strange to me. The drums get pretty ambient during a little solo part, nothing technical, but very fitting. I listened twice to the song and I liked it better the second time so I guess this stuff grows on me, it does get a bit repetitive in the end. But it was a nice song 7/10. My songs : Emperor - Beyond the great vast forest (Symphonic Black) Arcturus - Wintry grey (Symphonic Black) Within Tempation - Dark Wings (Gothic metal, female vocals) Dark Tranquillity - Punish my Heaven (Melodic Death) Machine Head - The Burning red (ballad, I guess,) |

Beware though, I'm dial-up so it would be slow, and they're fairly large files (all 192kbps, so a 6 minute song is 9MB). I don't mind though. *not a dibs* |
