As a response to the Worst rap record you've ever heard, what's the best, or some of the best? Get some more basic discussion going...

Here's a top 5 of mine in alpha order:

Broth Lynch Hung - The Ripgut Collection
Notorious B.I.G - Ready To Die
Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle
The Roots - Illadelph Halflife
Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal

04-08-2009, 06:29 PM
El-P - Fantastic Damage
Deltron 3030
Outkast - Aquemini
Roots - Things Fall Apart
Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus

And these might not necessarily be the best, but these are MY favorites, ha.

Black Milk's Tronic and Waajeed's The War are approaching this status as well.

I like Black Star and Liquid Swords a lot, I nicked the Wu Tang and solo projects back catalouge of a friend and there's a lot of good stuff scatterd around on it, I might make osme kind of playlist of the best stuff. I also like Kanye West's stuff, dunno if that's allowed here though lol. Mos Def - The New Danger I have decided is pretty bad, I need to listen to some of his other stuff as I liked Black Star so he must have some other good stuff.

04-09-2009, 08:37 AM

Quasimoto - The Unseen

04-11-2009, 01:14 PM
Been thinking about this a bit more and to add to Illmatic, the other records that I always return to are...

Aesop Rock - Labour Days
Charaizma and Peanut Butter Wolf - Big Shots
NWA - Straight Outta Compton
Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek - Reflection Eternal
Why? - Elephant Eyelash

Jay-z Reasonable Doubt

04-21-2009, 04:03 AM
I'm quite fond of The Chronic, except for a few tracks.

There is like 2+ unsatisfactory songs in there plus unneeded filler.

36 Chambers and the Marshall Mathers Lp are great too.

04-21-2009, 04:49 AM
the intro to the chronic is so good

04-23-2009, 10:33 AM

Ready To Die
Reasonable Doubt

Other favorites:
Shadows on the Sun

**** i can't think of anything else right now...

04-23-2009, 09:57 PM
Most of The Chronic is shockingly bad IMO. There are a few solid G-Funk sounds in it but the bulk of it bores me.

Illmatic is my favorite hip-hop record and Ready to Die was the first album to make me respect it as a genre.

I'm just getting into Big L, Lifestylez is completely sick.

04-23-2009, 10:31 PM
oh yeah

big l is ****ing dope.

04-23-2009, 10:56 PM
big l is one of my top rappers of all time. you need to check out his compilation of freestyle verses, they're sick.

04-23-2009, 11:42 PM
What's the name of the compilation?

04-24-2009, 07:20 AM
Harlem's Finest: A Freestyle History, Vol. 1 and 2
there's also an album of unreleased/rare stuff called The Unseen Picture

not really sure if either of those were ever released widely in stores

04-24-2009, 09:54 AM
