No to Cash, Green, Redding, and Gaye. They're not rock, especially not those last three, not even by a long shot!

I realized Cash was a no after I posted it, Gaye is questionable, but no to Otis Redding and Al Green is clearly ridiculous. How can Elvis be rock but not Otis Redding? He helped define the Memphis sound.

Redding, Green, and Gaye are/were soul artists, there is no debate. Yes, we're all impressed that you listen to music other than R&M, but that doesn't make it work for this poll. They're in a whole different league, and no doubt they're better than a lot of true rock/metal singers.

I guarantee you: Otis Redding is Rock n' Roll. Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay is considered to be one of the best Rock songs ever in some places.

They have two.

Oh really? Is he the guy who does the rapping verses in "Down?"

Ugh, I really don't like either of them. But they're eligible, just that I would never put them on my list.

Yeah, I think so. Nick is the guy who sings and plays guitar, and SA does the rapping.

I only think that's what it is. I know they have two, but my only experience with 311 is that I saw them live once. I don't really care for either of them either.

Yes, that is the lineup. I like Nick...not a huge fan of Martinez, although he doesn't bother me, either. Great band, though...very underrated musicians.

For sure Mikael Akerfeldt and Maynard James Keenan are the only two worth my nomination since they beat everyone else hands down.

Well they don't count because you need at least fifteen of them. Not that the two you listed are in any danger of not making the cut.

Also, I added a poll to let me know when to cut off the nominations. There's also a trick option that, when clicked, means that I can DQ your nominations! So don't click it if you want your people to count! This is just a way to weed out the idiots, because I'm sure that maybe a few people will click it anyway.

YDLoad, not that I do not have read the rules, but I wonder if you'd think Michael Jackson should be allowed. He's not pure rock (let alone metal), but he undoubtedly has rock songs, and a lot of his songs do have rock influences (like a mix between pop and rock, but then gooowd.. :p ). I don't think I'll nominate at all, but I'm just curious, see the question as apart from the thread.

My humble excuses if I'm irritating you (ahem).

My mistake. I knew they didn't play their own instruments, so I assumed they didn't sing either. Oh well, there's one nomination for him I guess.

Also, people need to stop nominating Johnny Cash because he's very obviously a country singer. A really good one with an awesome voice, but not quite eligible for the competition. I'm also confused by Dylan's nominations; he's eligible but not very good at all, more of a great lyricist. But whatever, can't do anything about that.
And Bob Marley, and I wouldn't say the Monkees were rock or metal.

Maybe not. But listen to his voice on "Moment in paradise", Telephone line" "Big wheels" and "Eldorado". They stand out as some of Jeff's finest moments.

And Bob Marley, and I wouldn't say the Monkees were rock or metal.

I would..I'm a believer is definatly a rock song..yes, they were rock N roll, not hard rock..But still i would include them-likewise I would include the animals, Byrds, Beach boys etc. They were the roots of the rock scene. And Marley, well he had a band, yeah they were reggea but they were rock orientated and influenced.

24. Jimi Hendrix(DIDNT SEE HIM ON ANYONES LIST!!!)

That's because he didn't really have a great singing voice. He was primarily a guitarist and a singer second. He didn't have too much talent singing-wise. He wasn't really a 'frontman' just a guitarist who sang.

34. Kurt Cobian(Don't like him but he had a hell of a voice)

I personally hated Kurts voice. I found it thin, watery and annoying.

35. Meatloaf(not sure if thats the name he goes by but thats one hell of a voice he got)

Yeah, he goes by the name Meat Loaf, his real name is marvin lee Addy but he'll probaly break your legs if you call him it (He said that to an interviwer who called him marvin..he.he..)

And yep he;s got a great voice..

Why would Michael Jackson be allowed? Because "Beat It" has a sample of Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle?" I think you're delirious, there's no way Jackson would be allowed, even though he has a great voice.

Why would Michael Jackson be allowed? Because "Beat It" has a sample of Aerosmith's "Back in the Saddle?" I think you're delirious, there's no way Jackson would be allowed, even though he has a great voice.

Fair enough, I was just wondering. Pity though.

Not really, because he's a really bad singer. All he had going for him was the white-boy rapping thing, but that was slowly phased out in the 90s.

Does Black Thought of The Roots count? I know you said R+M only but The Roots, in case you've never heard anything said or written about them ever, play their own instruments. Same thing for Andre and Big Boi of Outkast (Outkast records albums with a live band). If not, congratulations for using a chickenshit loophole that allows Rage Against the Machine into the contest.

Sssssht, I know that ;) It could've better rephrased it in, people will respect you les...

But do you respect his angry tone towards not knowing users and fanboys, who just want to say there stuff, I agree that they should read the rules of the topic, but you can say it more polite ...

YDload
11-01-2005, 02:21 PM
I'm usually very polite when the occasion calls for it. Look at all my paragraph-long replies where I detail exactly what I think when it comes to eligibility and nominations. Nobody wants to read a lot of words and it's their fault for not taking that time to follow instructions. I'm typically not a very patient person anyway, so being bombarded with the same question multiple times, as well as nominations which do not fit the rules at all, tends to force me to break out the old size 7 bold text.

Why don't you get off his case about it? He's had to explain this over and over again, and probably doesn't want to copy and paste so he has the same post all throughout the thread. The point of the rules in the first post was probably to eliminate the need for him to repeat to every new user in here. He's busting his ass to run this competition, so if you don't like the way he's doing it don't participate.
