This is something a mate of mines been working on for a while. Thought it might interest you guys.

Ok so top to bottom on the first pic:
1)Purple sparkle Hollow bodied shell (30ply total) Birch
2)Vevona Burr Veneered 10ply shell (birch core)
3 and 4) Thick ply Oak shell. Each ply1.5mm thick. Both 4 ply a piece. Bottom ones had a few coats of tung oil and a waxing, still waitin to be buffed.
5) silver to purple sparkle fade experiment. This came out **** in the photo.

Closeup of vevona veneered shell. This has had 2 coats of tung oil, and needs a fair few more and waxing and buffing. This was veneered from 4 bookmatched leaves of raw veneer onto a 9ply birch shell. Still needed the edges cleaning up, and bearing edges routing.

22x22 Yellow 6ply shells with 6ply re-enforcement rings birch bass shell. Still need white stars putting on then clear coats shooting.
20x22 Raw birch bass shell. 6ply+6ply re-rings

NOTE: These are NOT keller shells, nor are they any other shell makers product. These shells and their finishes were made entirely by my friend. None of them have hardware yet because it hasnt arrived.

From being nothing but a strip of wood he has shaped and cut them into these shells.

Aye i was pretty impressed with them as well. I love the purple sparkle.

You should see his own kit he's building. (He builds those shells to pay for his uni course)

Its acrylic with lights mounted inside, and he's using triggers to trigger the lights when he hits a drum

He isnt selling any at the moment but i'll get a link to his ebay thing later. I dont think he gives himself as much credit as he should.

When ive heard one of his drums i might consider ordering a kit from him.

It'll be in the silver-purple fade finish hopefully

those are amazing

vevona burr is definitely my favorite out of those

09-17-2005, 03:33 PM
Why didn't he tape off the drums?

They'd look 100x better if he had taped off the drums, had a nice cut line on the bearing edge and didn't have paint smudges all over the insides...

09-17-2005, 03:54 PM
Who really cares the drums look pimp....I wish i had the blue to black fade. That is awesome. Hey where is Osiris...maybve he can give soem expert tips.

09-17-2005, 04:01 PM

I know, im so jealous of his talent for this stuff

EDIT: to fullmetal

12-23-2005, 08:32 PM
Dude, those are awesome! How did he do his veneer? Did he use a vacuum press or does he just use wood glue or what?

Drum Phil
12-23-2005, 08:34 PM
God knows. He tends to keep his methods to himself.

He played a gig with me earlier this year and i was blown away by this:

The first snare he built

12-23-2005, 08:38 PM
God, another awesome one. That sucks he keeps it to himself. I guess if he's wanted to make a career out of it it's a good idea.

12-23-2005, 09:06 PM
The question is, how do they sound?

And if he learns from Osiris, he can forget drum building forever.

12-23-2005, 09:35 PM
wow dude that busy and i like it cool dude tanks for the pics :D
