Lots of non-metal albums on there.

Shattered_Future
07-19-2005, 09:35 PM
A good third of those aren't even metal...

I dunno, magazine lists are never really right...it's better to make your own list. :D

Can't believe they put Creed on there, but "My Own Prison" was actually a decently good CD.

Rage Against the Machine - Evil Empire
Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
NOT METAL

Lots of non-metal albums on here.
Are you sure it wasn't Metal and Hard Rock Bands cause that would sum up all but LP, and Creed and RATM and Chevelle.
I love a lot of the bands on there but the ones I listed sucked.

It's a magazine called Hit Parader. When they picked a name like that, they should have realized they'd be so scorned by dedicated music fans and musicians that they'd be considered less credible than carnies.

Wow, that list was pretty bad. :-/ I have yet to see a decent top 100 dealing with any type of rock or metal oddity.

"Mallcore" doesn't even begin to describe it. My 14 year old rap-listening sister knows the difference between metal and rock better than these morons.

hethamulburton
07-19-2005, 09:47 PM
No I meant that I didn't see them in the top 10 before I posted last.

Number 1, why bother, even start at 100, it's impossible to get a good list, and one that takes into consideration everyone.

Items that are metal : bold
Items that should not have come within ten miles of a metal list : underlined
Items that could be considered metal, or close : italics
Great albums, metal or not : red

And metalcore counts as metal, to me, atleast.

This more or less comes down to my opinion, but I think it's much more agreeable than HP's trainwreck of an article

WHAT?!?!

And why did the Black album win? meh... MOP was better. Anyways, it's a really bad list (besides Nevermind and the black album the top ten is great, but most of the list isn't metal at all) Spin also just came out with a top 100 since '85 and it's list was god awful.

this is the link from spin.com for the bottom 50,

It won because it sold 15 million albums and had a 2 year tour to supprt it. Other than that I don't know, I don't agree either, just offering why. I guess because it is the best selling album from the most successful metal band- album sales wise, maybe that's how they made the list.

Wow, 27 metal albums in a metal top 100. 1 in the top 10. And the ones that are metal should mostly not be in a metal top 100. And I'm even leaving in some bands I could easily dismiss as being metal.

And why put in those Metallica albums and that Megadeth album?

What a terrible, terrible list.

You forgot that hair is metal too, not heavy, but still metal, so sadly Bon Jovi is a metal band, not deserving of their spot, but metal nonetheless.
I would easily double, your count, cause hair is metal. Your count for true heavy metal is pretty good.

Hair metal is not metal, neither is nu metal, it's just a stupid label put on by mainstream critics who don't know much about music.

I can't help but feel that some people treat hair metal and nu-metal a little unfairly. As if metal is some sort of royalty of a label, whom those of lower station must be entirely exempt from, contrary to what other titles may be attached to their names.

Well, my list was about true metal, proving this list is not a metal list. ;)

Nirvana is really the weirdest thing on that list, awesome album, yeah, but who would ever call that metal? Even allmusic doesn't.

I can't help but feel that some people treat hair metal and nu-metal a little unfairly. As if metal is some sort of royalty of a label, whom those of lower station must be entirely exempt from, contrary to what other titles may be attached to their names.

Hair metal deserves nothing but the worst treatment. :p

And no one ever said they were lower forms, but if you make a top 100 METAL list, you have to put METAL in it.

I agree GWAR should be on there, and Testament, instead of Nirvana.

I love complaining, and I probably did one of the best jobs of complaining ITT.

I have to laugh when I think of all the crap like Creed on there, and not even a reference to Death, Possessed, Venom...

So in this list Metallica - Load is higher than Metallica - Kill em all????

All that list shows is the top 100 bands the writer of that article likes in his favourite order...
The list would modify for each and every person so its pointless in writing these lists.

I'm afraid "lists" are the latest media thing. Hardly a week goes by here in Britain without yet another idiotic "Top 100" type program - a few weeks ago we had Top 100 biggest scandals or somesuch rot.
They're always "as voted by you, the viewers" (what that means, ladies and gentlemen is "as voted by you, the mass of ill-informed, under-educated fat-arsed couch potatoes who buy crap clothes, eat ready meals, and have opinions that you have no right to hold, who are always watching crap TV")
This trend is popular with the media because it can masquerade as a serious show, but with little effort or talent required, and it can fill a whole evening's viewing from 9-12pm.
Same goes for lazy journalists in mags - filling pages with lists is a cheap cop-out excuse for real writing.
I hate it all.

You forgot that hair is metal too, not heavy, but still metal, so sadly Bon Jovi is a metal band, not deserving of their spot, but metal nonetheless.
I would easily double, your count, cause hair is metal. Your count for true heavy metal is pretty good.

hair metal=Glam Rock

not metal, is just an invented label too sound vicious and not look girly.

That was part of a Lewis Black rant actually. A year or two ago, he went on the Daily Show and said, "The last couple years, everyone does lists to get out of work. The Person of the Year is a particularly popular way to do it, so I'm going to be lazy too and do my own."

The candidates were Caesar Barber (the guy who sued McDonald's because he was too much of a chunkhead to realize eating their everyday would turn him into a morbidly obese hog-creature), Sean Penn (for pretending to be political), and the Northern snakehead fish. The third candidate won.

"Congratulations, Norther snakehead! I hope you kick the small-mouth bass right square in the balls!"

I take it from that outburst that you are a regular voter in these polls.
Your haphazard approach to the use of the English Language would certainly seem to prove my point about "under-educated"

Well it's not such a stupid conclusion is it?
1 - list programmes are inane and stupid
2 - people who watch these programmes must, almost by definition, be easily pleased and therefore not of the highest intelligence
3- only people who watch these programmes will do the voting, so...

They will probably be stupid. It's a vicious circle - see point 1

Note; punctuation is useful when writing - try it.

I never sad list programmes are not stupid I despise them myself. Just dont jump to stupid conclusions about thte people who watch them.

No. 2 for example, you jump to another conclusion which is stupid. How do you know people with high intelligence do not watch these show's?

Also a lot of stupid annoying people that are promoting the show will go out and ask people what there opinion on the worst disasters or scandals ever and then tell them to tune in.

I think it's a fair assumption that only reasonably dull people would watch these shows all the time. Others would get bored and switch over.

The other problem is - how many scandals/disasters/bad haircuts/whatever could anyone remember without a lot of prompting; the memory of the public (me included) is very short, and then to rate, like 100 of them in order is just ridiculous.
