Globe are a very successful electronic pop band from Japan. Forming in 1995, it would only take one year for them to be skyrocketed to the very top of the Japanese music industry. Their self-titled debut album was a humongous hit, and one of the singles, "Departures", became one of the top selling Japanese singles of that year. The album itself was the top selling Japanese album for sometime. In later years, they started to experiment with a much more electronic feel, much to the dismay of certain longtime fans. The more they experimented, the more they lost fans. However, that never stopped Globe from releasing albums and singles, to varied success. However, the breakthrough electropop trio seemed to have embarked on a hiatus in 2007, presumably due to the highly publicized embezzlement scandal of Tetsuya Komuro, who is the brain of the group. However, in 2009, Globe temporarily made a comeback, only to end up on another hiatus in 2011, due to frontwoman, Keiko, enduring a serious brain operation. Globe still appear to be on a hiatus today, although they remain to be one of the most successful, and breakthrough, musical groups not only in Japan, but in Asia as a whole. « hide |
