This is a continuation of the band's debut release, which was essentially a Porcupine Tree meets Opeth combination. It was really good, and I had high hopes for this album... but it appears they've hit the sophomore slump. Everything is pretty similar to the previous album--proggy sections, mellow atmospheric sections, death metal spurts, soft clean singing... but the songwriting itself just isn't as strong this time around. I can't put my finger on what has changed, and this is still pretty good, just not as good as the debut.
