Part Decemberists-level rock opera complete with folk interludes, back out through thrash riffs, and finally into something resembling the post-hardcore FU is known for being. Somehow it all gels remarkably well.

Potentially the most ambitious release in a string of zodiac-themed projects that are known for their over-the-top ambition. I was a bit flabbergasted on first listen because the songs (the shortest of which being 19 minutes) constantly change and shift dramatically and randomly whereas the previous entries in this series generally focus on elongated passages that transform coherently and over time. However on repeat listens it definitely works for me and I'm fully into it. This project is insane and it has some of Fucked Up's greatest moments to date imo.

"Year of the Horse" is an interesting post-hardcore concept album of four tracks ranging from 19-26 minutes each, encompassing a lot of different styles of music. There's a lot of aggressive post-hardcore, which winds its way into western cowboy music, rock operas and beyond. It's kind of a lot.

Completely out of the blue, from a band I never cared for that much, an overwhelmingly ambitious project so massive in its influences, aspirations, stylistic shifts, and song-writing, I was left absolutely enthralled and craving more.
