Brilliant in every conceivable way. Messiaen's use of leitmotifs, phenomenal orchestration, and masterful storytelling is unparalleled. All of this material is on a level entirely his own. That being said, the last act is truly transcendental and life-changing. I can easily say it is one of the most fascinating moments in all of modern classical music.
