0.0 | quetzal | March 26th 20 | At first I found the debut to be a little better, albeit derivative of Lantlos (Herbst did produce both Trautonist albums after all), but this album really, really grew on me. I've listened to it so many times since it released and I revisit it heavily frequently. Fire and Ember is one of the most flawless mixtures of dreampop / shoegaze and black metal that I could imagine. The atmosphere is impeccable.

4.0 excellent | Robert Davis | June 21st 18 | This is exactly the sort of album that marks the wide divide between those who love blackgaze and those who despise it. There's a certain je ne sais quoi to this release however, which sees the enigmatic duo channel a distinctive charm aesthetic straight from the heart of bands such as Laster and An Autumn for Crippled Children, whilst at the same time representing a neat fusion of blackened energy and soaring pop melodies. Not for everyone, but to be fair, this IS blackgaze.
