Oh you guys! Why Tadd Dameron didn't have a page on here I will never know. This record brought together two members of the Miles Davis quintet in John Coltrane and Philly Joe Jones with a very good bassist in John Simmons and pianist Tadd Dameron, a man revered for being one of the greatest composers of the bop era. It's easy to see why, as the entire record is made up of sexy, dexterous, and occasionally even catchy hard bop. The opener/title-track really sets the tone, with its undeniable groove and infectious piano lines dominating the song. While the other songs might not reach the same heights as the opener, they're all very solid hard bop and all enjoyable listens. Dameron is quite a wizard on the piano as well, as evidenced by his switching between the dominant lead and the steadying hand with Coltrane's saxophone. In all, an overlooked hard bop exhibition.
