lol, toxin. Tis true, my friend.

Also country is pretty much a main staple around here. And I am a firm believer that the last 10 - 12 years of country music sucks complete ass. Especially the stuff that seems to be trending within the last year or so like Eric Church, Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line, just to name a few.

I'm so glad there's no concept of country in Southern California. I haven't heard any country at all really and I'm pretty happy about it. haha

Haha Cyg, I don't know or care if her personality is good. Her music has a certain niche of fun and digestible music while still being of relatively high quality for pop, and honestly that's enough reason for me to listen to her.

You know I find it funny that most of the time the people that complain the most about hipsters are the most pretentious. I have a friend that absolutely hates Skrillex but then some other girl he tried to show me that also makes shitty brostep but plays violin over it is apparently his favorite artists CAUSE YOU KNOW THROWING A VIOLIN IN THERE CHANGES EVERYTHING RIGHT.

so much lol.

violin only changes everything when it's yellowcard, but they can get away with it because some of their stuff is stupidly catchy as it is.

That's exactly what I'm talking about, I'm 95% sure the only reason he hates Skrillex is because everyone else says he sucks and he doesn't want to have bad taste. Hell he even used to love Skrillex until apparently his tastes matured and he grew out of Skrillex (by that I mean he went from listening to shitty brostep and Hollywood Undead to liking equally shitty party electronica stuff).

to be fair i legitimately grew out of commercial crap and started listening to crap mainstream rock (three days grace et all)

i seriously thought that stuff was better than the shit i was listening to before.

i think the linear sense of quality that most sputnikers believe in doesn't apply to a lot of people. usually it's more, "the less mainstream it is, the better quality" as long as it's not so un-mainstream that's it now hipster-y!

you're right though that a part of it is conforming to what everyone else believes.

This discussion is funny for me because until a I was about 13 or 14, I had no sense of taste in music. I couldn't distinguish one genre or another, just that different instruments and styles were used.

My taste conformed to whatever it was that I happened to enjoy, and also to my older brother's taste in music. He happened to play music all the time and I happened love everything he played, almost.

This resulted in my love of pop punk.

Ever since then, I never liked most of the mainstream stuff for whatever reason.

I clearly remember hating Taylor Swift the when I listened to her stuff.

Until the song "You Belong With Me" won me over in it's ridiculous catchiness.

Actually no he was 18 when he went through his Hollywood Undead phase and is 19 now. He thinks he's super elite too which is the sad part.

Wow.

Wow.

This reminds me of one of my friends' friend that like every few days posts a song on his wall on

facebook always saying something like "such magnificence" or "don't listen to the shit on the radio,

listen to these" or "really good unknown/local bands!"

and every band he posts is like Disturbed, 3 Days Grace, Black Veil Brides, etc.

ugh
