Chris Poland is a jazz player too, further lending to that sort of style and vibe on this album

isnt that because he could stretch his fretting fingers in a way that almost no one else could?

but also his bends are crazy and sometimes he picks once for like 20 notes. there's an old sick video i gotta find that shows his chops super well

budge i cant believe you said the rust in peace remaster is fine
but yes the originals are always the way to go
never really considered the vocals to be significantly different from kimb but maybe just because im so dazzled by the guitars 🤩

Hot take but:

I agree that the vocals of the RiP remaster are ass, but I prefer literally everything else about the remaster over the original version. The riffs sound so much cleaner and heavier at the same time, and the prominence of Ellefson's bass in the mix is a huge part of that. Idk, everything just seems to pop more in the remaster (again, sans the inferior vox)

And since Mustaine's vox were never a big selling point for me anyway, that's not much of a loss

fine yes rip remaster is fine in the context of the other 3 remasters being literally unlistenable

Speaking of Chris Poland. Any of you ever hear his post-Megadeth band Damn the Machine?

Yes, albeit not as thoroughly as I'd like. I'm on vacation with the wife and baby, so it's kinda hard to find the time to jam properly. I did get a whiff of the whole thing in a few separate occasions, and it absolutely sounds like it's up my alley. I like the whole "simplistic prog" shtick. Still sounds cool while being a bit adventurous. Will get to it next week wheb I'm back home
