I think The Jester Race is extremely overrated. I'd take this, Colony, and Clayman all over The Jester Race.

I don't see it. I mean, The Jester Race is a solid 3.5 for me, but I can't see why so many people think it's classic.

come people get it right! it goes:
TJR > Whoracle > Colony > Clayman > Subterranean > Lunar Strain > Boiled asparagus> Come Clarity > RTR > a piece of dog shit > everything else
Why is TJR better? Its just so much more consistent! a good chunk of whoracle is filler. Besides Jotun, Food for the Gods, The Hive, Jester Script Transfigured, and Dialogue with the Stars, the album is mediocre. However those fucking amazing songs make it a fucking great album! There are only 2 things wrong with TJR: The Jester Race (Song) takes too damn long to get to the fucking epic ass solo; the solo actually saves the song from being mediocre. The other slip up is that Wayfaerer is a boring for the first 2 minutes when the true the epicness really sets in; the opening riff is just meh. The point is that every song is memorable on TJR. Only half are on whoracle.
Still don't believe me? Listen to the solo off December's Flower! That alone steals the crown from Whoracle
I just feel like people like whoracle over TJR because of the better production quality, which while making it more fun to listen to, doesnt mean the songs are actually better in a musical sense. I will admit that Anders' voice improved immensely on whoracle.

This is very good but as with most In Flames album, Anders is the weakest of all the members. 4/5.

I don't get the hate for Worlds Within The Margin though. It is a great track.

anders rule during this time imo.
***********
In some songs he is pretty decent, but in some his performances are pretty mediocre. Jesper never disappoints thought.

worlds within the margin is one of their best tracks.

worlds within the margin is one of their best tracks.

The Hive was the only oldie they played when I saw em a few months back

Saw them 2 years ago and they only played 'Artifacts of the Black Rain', nothing off of colony,
whoracle or clayman.
EDIT: actually it was 3 years (time flies) and they also played pinball map and embody the invisible. 3
songs (from their best period) out of a setlist of 20.

Supposedly its hard for them to play their old stuff because I believe they need 3 guitarists. The 2 harmonized leads and the rhythm. Not sure but I remember reading that. Actually here it is:
On the fact that the band doesn't play a lot of its early material live:
"When you play live, you really see the strength of a song. We don't play so much of the older material anymore because we were super naïve when we got into this with the recording process. We put layers and layers of guitar on the earlier albums and we were like, 'Oh sh-t, we have to produce this live. F—k we're only five people and we have two guitar players.'"

hadn't considered that, and in fact makes perfect sense and is therefore forgiveable. It is a shame though, still enjoyed seeing them but would love to have heard more of the early stuff
