It's weird, Lou Reed invented like 10 genres, Heroin is almost a twinkly emo song
Lou Reed was an incredible songwriter, but almost all of the innovation/invention should be credited
to John Cale. Before Cale got his hands on them a lot of Reed's early songs had a Dylan esque folk
aesthetic. It's no coincidence that when he left they became a relatively straightforward rock n roll
band.

While I agree that this is their best album, I think the others are equally ingenius, and some of them even have one or two tracks that completely blow away most of this album. "The Murder Mystery" being a good example, it's a really fucked-up song and hard to get into at first, but once it clicked on me- I know realized it's their best song since "Heroin".

I dont know I think all their albums are good personally, but I do agree that this is indeed the best. "Black angel", "heroin", and "I'm Waiting for the man"are my top 3 Velvet underground tracks.
Yeah, it took me a while to 'get' The Murder Mystery- it's like a cross between The Doors and weird ass spoken verses. I haven't taken the time to even look up the lyrics. But believe me, if you keep listening to it, it gets really catchy and even addictive.
