Ok, goddamn. 6 or 7 listens in and this is rising up to S tier Mastodon maybe, A tier for sure. Still doesn’t beat out CtS or BM (lol), but might overtake EoS for third. Maybe.

I think this is the first Mastodon since CtS that I enjoy effortlessly front to back and on repeat. I definitely love all the others (minus Hushed), but I think I had to work at it a bit more and I don’t find them as consistent. This one feels more immediate and immersive, but there’s also a lot of depth to it, but it’s just extra stuff you can appreciate if you want to spend the time, not a necessity.

I prefer Remission to Leviathan tbh, and Omrts beats The Hunter based on having that one/two opening punch of Tread Lightly and The Motherlode. Saw them a few times on that tour.

I don’t know yall, the penultimate and closing tracks are insanely good and the 2ns half is great and all, but the 1st is arguably just as solid, just maybe lacking those whopper final tracks.
