[2] They were doing bits with this album back in the day and they've always been at the front of the curve in core stuff. 06 was still really early for the more mainstream deathcore stuff (Carnifex, Suicide Silence and Whitechapel all released their debut's after this for example) and none of the stuff before this sounded anything like it really.

agree to disagree i guess. my memory's not perfect but, being an old man and being alive around then, what i remember was this both being trashed for being scene kid stuff (unfairly imo, but metal elitists have always been lame) and also for being unoriginal, even in the context of the deathcore releases up to that point

this was not unoriginal in 2006, copycats that came after made it seem so. if i'm an expert on anything in life, it's myspace deathcore lol. lived through it, jammed everything under the sun and even blogged it when i was a teenager.
i could write a college dissertation on it haha

if I remember correctly on one of the reviews for this when it came out at the time people were arguing in the thread about whether deathcore was even a genre or whether it simply constituted metalcore, which suggests that it was at least an early example of that sort of thing if not 'groundbreaking'

Im very confused why people are saying this was groundbreaking in 2006 tho. This sound and vocal style was already in full swing. Is this talkint about making deathcore mainstream? The scene was in full swing in 2005 as well as the genre. This makes no sense.

the fusion was interesting at the time but bands were flirting with it since the late 90s and these guy got influences from stuff like Norma Jean so definitely interesting but nothing too new when broken apart
