Aw yuss! Yeah the heavy injection of blues really pays off, and I think you can really hear Shooter's production chops too. The songs never feel like they end too early, miss an extra chorus, etc., which has been something that can pop up here and there with Crockett.

I gotta say the title track is super weird and out of left field. I could do without it, but I also don’t hate it

I dig it, but it does stand out somewhat. He's been doing that especially on his more recent releases. I'm just glad there's not a bunch of grindcore-length songs and instrumental fillers like on Age of the Ram lol

very torn on this. i absolutely love the opener and eagle+crow but that's because they are more traditional rock songs. i'm not really into the country though

Definitely get that, it's a departure from his usual sounds too, a lot more blues in the mix. I will say though that this is one that gets better for me with each spin, so maybe it'll grow on you!

Glad you dig it too! I'm pumped to see where him and Shooter go next. I didn't talk about it in the review, but it does kind of paint some of the songs in Age of the Ram in a different light. Having 'Me and Shooter' nearly end the last album didn't make a ton of sense to me considering it was out of character for the trilogy, but with this album dropping less than a month later, things kinda fall into place.

This is pretty great for country. Not really my type of music but I appreciate it.

I'm happy to report that there is a ton of solid country like this these days (coming from a guy who used to LOATHE all country). Check out Sturgill Simpson/Johnny Blue Skies and Colter Wall

Agreed on all those suggestions! I think Sturgill is like thee era defining country artist, so damn good. There's also a lot of good so-called Red Dirt bands out there right now too like Turnpike Troubadours, Flatland Cavalry and Shane Smith & the Saints.

Honey Harper too for those looking for some excellent country/dream folk

Really due for a new Honey Harper album. Last one was SUPER underrated and slept on. I still listen to Reflections and Boots Mine Gold all the time
