conceptually yeah sure but fr her songwriting is extremely overblown and dense with stuff that doesn't need to be there.

Nah that’s still tool, Liturgy doesn’t have enough mainstream motion to earn that title imo

Glorified alt metal with a few weird time signatures but it’s considered brilliant and transcendent by the toolarmy

Liturgy sucks more than this by a decent margin, but this kinda sucks too? Idk, it has moments where I’m like “man this is cool” and then it’s followed by parts that band absolutely no sense

wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle yea. It's got loads of ideas but they're all over, and none of them are invested in enough. The next album should be the interesting one, if they can flesh their structuring out a bit by then.

I got about halfway through this before I decided I wish they’d just decide if they wanted to do blackgaze/skramz or mathcore. Mathcore is a tricky genre to incorporate without it sounded tacked on last minute, especially in a more atmospheric blend.

agreed, those portions were so jarring. does not mix with blackgaze at all. it goes with disso stuff like noise trail immersion.

Yeah nothing against these guys at all, I like the mathcore bits, I like the BM bits, I like the skramz bits, just doesn’t work for me as a full concoction

Stoked to see these guys at the end of the month on their east coast tour… in Missouri.

I’m not complaining I just got a chuckle out of that

I do not know what you all mean by "mathcore bits"

Really cool album at times. What absolutely fries me is that the riff in the end of liturgy (2:48) happens to have the exact same melody as the main hook in Racing Mount Pleasant (pops up around 1:57), a totally random indie song. And the two bands have little in common to suggest it's a tribute. Just a detail I found peculiar, lol.

Has me excited to see them then! Knoll is also going to be supporting so that should be good as well.
