"chino sounding like he's in a permanent k hole all the time"
One of the reasons I'm a fan of the band. One man's trash is another man's treasure I suppose.

Ohms is great but it sounds like a band on autopilot to me. It’s got some gems tho, I love Genesis, Urantia, Error, Radiant City, and Headless. The title track is really the only song on there that sounds like something they wouldn’t normally do. Someone made a mastodon comparison and I hear that.
I still think the bridge buildup in Genesis is one of the most beautiful moments in their discog

I love Ohms but it’s not something I pull out a ton. But when I do, I always think it’s better than I even remembered.
Still, amongst Deftones discog, it’s lower tier. Cliche, but that’s only a testament to how great their other music is, not to Ohms being underwhelming.

After listening to this album at least once daily in December, I can certify it is their 4th best album only surpassed by WP, ATF, and DE

Im giving this a few more spins. Who knows if it's a grower.
I remember for Ohms, listening on repeat the whole night it got released.
Those where fun times. I miss being on Sput sharing that moment with my fellow Sput buddies while spamming the Deftones review trying to get it to 1000 pages.
My view of Ohms may be linked to that. Funny how the circumstances can change your appreciation of an album.

What makes an album trend on Sput?

Probably algorithmic based on "engagement" like soundoffs and then how active review threads are following release. I also imagine as albums receive additional ratings that can prop them up too.

Yep, I believe it has to do with the amount of ratings.

Absolutely. I’ve noticed even my mood and how bad or good my life is going at the time can change how much I like/love an album, or not. Which is why some albums don’t click at first, then do later.

Private Music has only two-three flaws, it isn’t really breaking new ground for Deftones, Locked Club has a similar riff to My Mind is a Mountain, and side two is stronger than side one. I would say Souvenir feels a little out of place imo but the lyricism overall for the album is less cringey vs Ohms. “Join the parade or be left out” is probably the dumbest line on the album but that is better than the “Jesus Christ” moment off of Pompeji in Ohms.
