I'll say this, it does take me back to my middle school/high school years, whether or not that's a good or bad thing I'm not entirely sure lmfao

Honestly, if you remove 'Apologies' and just listen to the album without it, the front end feels immediately improved.
They should have swapped it out or axed it from the track list entirely, imo. 'Kill Me Fast' also feels more welcome as the *first* ballad of the album, rather than the second - and then bang you hit 'In Waves' and we're having a good time.

If im being honest it’d probably be on One X level if it was just Adam and you get rid of the first three tracks
Good god mayday is fucking terrible

Not Adam is okay tbh, but then In Waves came on and the quiet first verse worked and then Adam exploded on the chorus and just sounded so much better
Two lead vocalists is a fun idea but it gets irritating when one of them is clearly better. Maybe that’s just nostalgia but not Adam sounds like a few dozen other forgettable radio rock acts. Adam is instantly recognizable

3 for Adam and the decent album art and for being the best thing they’ve done since One X, not gonna pretend im an expert on them or anything, anything 2010 onward I’ve listened to exactly once each

I applaud them for making sure Matt got his shot alongside Gontier’s “classic” Three Days Grace calibre, but yeah they very clearly wanted to maintain a firm 50/50 balance between the two vocalists and played it as safe as possible.
Provided that both Walst and Gontier actually stick around as the band’s chemistry develops, the next album could be interesting.

Listened to a few and they are good. Swear i heard some of these songs 12 months ago?

Excellent review, virtual pos.
-- this is an issue that’s plagued modern rock acts for the better part of a decade, and, sadly, probably comes down to keeping recording costs down

The only time I felt the dual vocalist thing worked was In Waves. That song kinda bangs but the rest of this is sucko mode.

“ Provided that both Walst and Gontier actually stick around as the band’s chemistry develops, the next album could be interesting.”
That’s what you would hope for but I think this band was on autopilot before Adam even left and it got so much worse when he was gone… this isn’t quite a return to form but I give them a solid B for effort.

I partially disagree. Feels that on each of the first 4 albums they experimented with their sound and broadened their soundpalette (as far as their songwriting formula allowed ofc). Their Walst albums all sound derivative of Transit and the only thing that varies between them is the quality of execution. Very few songs from that period I'd be willing to call creative, The Abyss and maybe two tracks off Human if I'm being generous.
Still haven't checked this one though. I think Mayday and Apologies suck and the next two singles are decent. If other songs are really better than them the album should stick the landing for me.

You’ll like it, Mayday is indeed fucking terrible and none of the other singles are much better.
Transit of Venus is where they started losing me, that album fucking sucks. And everything after is even worse. I guess maybe I should call this a return to form… can’t say I’ll be revisiting it tho

Vocals are ass but this is still better than Explosions and Human. Glad to hear... um... ANY guitar work for the first time in 13 years.

I know lmao, like what have the guitarists been doing for 15 years. Even on a song like Chalk Outline there’s no distinguishable riff. Just some basic chord progressions and that blaring siren sound
|
| |
Is this better than Explosions? Because Explosions is horrible.
|
| |
Give Me a Reason tho, the bridge riff makes that song for me. Also their Give In to Me cover has its moments, Stock ain't no Slash but for 3DG's standards I'm fine with what I got.

“ Is this better than Explosions? Because Explosions is horrible.” I’d rather stick my aux into a hot pile of dogshit than a phone playing explosions… yes it’s much better

1. This has Gontier.
2. Barry Stock stopped being lazy.
3. The power of hooks is with them.
Vocal prod is at least as bad if not worse tho.

It's significantly better, yeah.

Goddamn it, guess I have to listen to it now then.
