I'm surprised more people don't have this album.

I know, it was pretty hyped and popular. Their new one is coming out soon. I've seen some live stuff and it sounds promising.

Postcards from Italy is my favourite song right now. It's so good. They keyboard in Scenic World is so out of place from the rest of the album but it feels kind of...right.

Barely out of his teens, one would think that New Mexico native Zach Condon (aka Beirut) has traveled the world twice over, if debut LP 'Gulag Orkestar' is anything to go by. Filled with world music influences - especially Eastern European & Balkan - Condon amazingly recorded most of these multi-layered arrangements on his own. Horns, accordion, piano, ukulele & various percussion astutely over-shadow Condon's divisive croon & superficial lyrics. While it is an impressive achievement, beginning with an EP may have been wiser since repetition kicks in on this front-loaded album. Recommended Tracks: Mount Wroclai, Brandenburg & Postcards From Italy.

See, I can't agree with that (ratings aside) because my favourite songs are Mount Wroclai and Bratislava which are pretty much in the middle of the album, so hmmm.
