Yates should stick to drumming.

Went to a screening of their "visual album" on Sunday with my wife and we both fell asleep less than halfway through. Never thought I'd be caught calling a Turnstile record boring, but here we are.

"initially dismissed this as glow on-lite as well, but after a few spins I really don’t think that’s fair"

there are too many glaringly obvious examples of this for it not to be fair, but i don't dislike this any more/less than Glow On tbh - Look Out for Me is the best song between the two by a mile, and most of the annoying bs here (other than pacing) was equally grating on Glow On

the idea of Glow On-lite is kinda hilarious to me tbh - that album was everything-lite from the word go

The problem with a suggested genre switch/style change as the review hints at is the live show is 10 out of 10 perfect and probably the last thing the band want to mess with.

They're in a bit of a pickle because the recycling on this album is...not good.

They need to kick out the jams live but sound like they're going through the motions reverting to the template that's served them so far on record.

I feel like this record is more of a companion piece to Glow On than people were expecting, hence the mixed reaction from people who wanted "more" growth from them. Honestly, I love the record, it's fun as fuck. These songs will absolutely pop off live.

Turnstile to me feel like a band that's been in the right place at the right time for a revival for this sort of music, and they are smart enough to actually not fall apart as a unit with their growth.

I've never really connected with them the same that others have but I do absolutely adore "Blue By You" lol I'm glad a band like them is so big, but it just ain't for me

I just think the template for a lot of the song ideas here they've achieved the best iteration already and it really shows.

Lyrics maybe not a strong point for the band but at least the sentiment and context of a song like 'Holiday' or 'Fly Again' stood out...lyrics here seem super generic and flat, I haven't really noticed a single lyric in about ten plays of this album!

Also no individual riff is as catchy as 'Don't Play' and that's a big miss.

Don't Play still be the top, yeah.

My wife reports that they were playing new Turnstile at the local Wawa, so I guess they're getting their bag.

They've consistently been one of the best live bands since 2012 imo. Was crazy seeing them in rock star mode on the Glow On tour. Never expected a Turnstile drum solo lol

Their "bad guitar riffs" got them on the verge of touring arenas so I'm sure they aren't bothered
