Glow On was chock full of those forced hook moments where the vocals have this RATM echo on them despite the vocals really lacking the teeth to make the impact they were attempting. I always felt this band was impersonating punk instead of actually writing it.
Idk I’ve never read too closely into these guys, the crowd significantly carries their live performances too.

Awesome review, these guys are starting to sound like Band of Horses to me

Very disappointing, yeah. I enjoy the album, but I'm constantly saying "oh, they did this on Glow On..."

off the dome the main ones i hear are
never enough --> mystery
sole --> endless
dreaming --> don't play
dull --> blackout
birds --> tlc
really would not mind if it weren't for the major dip in quality sans birds

i hear more Helmet/Incubus etc than RATM but yes this is 100% the take otherwise

Def helmet vibes even from back when they were more aggressive, but that was sort of the appeal. This is just what happens when you kick the guy out that writes all the riffs after your last album made you explode in popularity

Album does sound like Glow On b-sides, but it ain't bad overall

Yeah honestly I'm digging this a lot thus far
Never much thought of the modern iteration so much a punk imitation as they are the baseline structure of punk laced with all sorts of 80s synthrock/synthpop influence. Tbh even in interviews it seems like the band is just interested in writing whatever idea comes to mind rather than anything distinctly punk.
I do get why people don't dig this tho, v much has less bite than the modest amount Glow On did

Also @vult
Saw them live at Adjacent, they sure as fuck had the loudness going but it really was the crowd that brought the high octane energy. Everyone from your typical big boi sweaty mosh centers to flowery bombshell valley girls to inner city glock wielding hoodrats. I've never seen a greater communion of so VERY different people brought together by music before all going apeshit. It was so beautiful imo

Yeah this just sounds like a watered down version of Glow On with dream pop elements sprinkled in. Some good tunes tho, Birds is a banger.

I dig this

Dede that’s the vibe the glow on release show was, just so many people of different circles all having fun together

Seeing tatted up dudes dressed to the nines for crowdkilling jumping up and down and absolutely singing their hearts out, that show was legit magical. One of my favs for sure

we’re all kids at heart and need music to awaken that

initially dismissed this as glow on-lite as well, but after a few spins I really don’t think that’s fair. I would say it does a number of things quite a bit better, actually
