The Who's second masterpiece. Very few bands have one, but TWO?
This is the ultimate Rock opera. Tommy is good, but is not as strong musically, having weaker tracks and is nowhere near as consistent. Quadrophenia put's all other concept albums to shame, especially that joke called The Wall.
Epic album from start to finish. Impressive songwriting with very good use of synth, piano, violin and sound effects adding to the atmosphere.
The album follows the life of teenager Jimmy and his struggles growing up in 60s England. Themes range from alienation, self-discovery, anger, disillusion, insecurity, and awkwardness. Any youth can connect with this album.
Every member of the band just shines on this album, with no faults anywhere.
The Ox showcases some of the best bass playing ever, heard right from the second track.
Keith's drumming is inspiring and thundering on this album, killing it on tracks The Rock and The Real Me. It's a shame this would be his last superb performance.
Daltrey's delivery on this album is top notch. Love, Reign O'er Me is no doubt the best vocal performance by him. Incredible range and control on an epic closing to the album.
Of course we cannot leave out Pete who is the mastermind behind this album. Doctor Jimmy is one of the best structured songs making perfect use of horns and strings. Pete's most insightful lyrics are present depicting the story and capturing it all perfectly. Pete's vocals are also quite good compared to previous efforts with I'm One being one of his best performances.
This album is timeless and gets better with every listen.
The Who's swansong.
