Reading the previous page caused an equivalent of Permian extinction among my neurons.

“I disagree with this; I have the opposite take on Sleep Token. I think that the concept of blending the genres together is cool, but I think Sleep Token executes their attempt at it poorly (particularly with their more recent material). An attempt at pushing boundaries and redefining genres is welcomed, but it needs to be done *well* and these guys aren't doing it all that well.”

Is there anyone doing this particular blend of djent and pop that you / the discourse actually thinks is good? I basically just see it reflexively shit on lol, which leads me to believe that people just think it's a bad idea. Albums that seem to be well-regarded (say, Bring Me the Horizon) are actually just very different / not poppy.

Personally I think Architects - FTTWTE and Bilmuri - AMERICAN MOTOR SPORTS are two great albums that actually do this well. I don't hate the sound. A lot of people think those albums suck though.

Sleep Token is actually sleep-y and I don't love the guys voice, so... i would say this is just meh but not offensively bad b/c I'm fine with the idea.

Yeah it's a bit lame. Metal elitists are gonna be elitists. So it was, so it was always be.

Periphery, in my opinion. Though they're not this particular brand, but they bring a lot more pop influence to their music than prog metal tends to. And I know they tend to be almost as divisive as ST. Or at least here they are.
