Out of morbid curiosity, I checked out the SNL performances and it actually made me wanna lower my rating

Colton, they asked the FANS to dress in suits for that tour. Which isn't the worst thing in the world but it does add to their narcissism and self-importance.

that is so stupid that I didn't even consider it as possibly being what you meant by that lol

lol me neither
add that to the evidence heap / type of behaviour that does make you reflect and reconsider their entire output’s value tbh

Funeral is probably the best thing they've ever done, but The Suburbs is definitely my favourite. It feels very personal because I was listening to it a lot when I left home with my now wife.

5 songs in.
Yeah, this is awful.

Finished.
Yeah this is bad. As much as I despised Everything Now, I'd sooner listen to that album again, because there were maybe two decent songs; this is just uncomfortable and boring.
And my god, some of these lyrics. I made a note of a lot of them:
-"One day I'll find the perfect girl, and I'll give her a name and I'll make her my world, and I'll put her up on a pedestal" MY DUDE, YOU LITERALLY MARRIED YOUR BANDMATE. AND SHE STOOD BY YOU IN ALL OF THIS
"I return to all my enemies all the pain they would like to or could have caused me, I return this evil to them with love" Brother READ THE ROOM, this sounds like something Kevin Spacey would say in one of his creepy Christmas videos he released every year after he got cancelled
"Take your mind off me a little while, in the darkest place I saw you smile, and the way it all changed makes me wanna cry" again brother READ THE ROOM
Someone also mentioned how tone deaf the title "Pink Elephant" is, as though it's a nod to the "elephant in the room". I suppose that's Win trying to be cheeky or something, but it just comes across as gross.
But yeah when this album isn't icky, it's just boring.

I saw where it looked like I saw Win Butler on the advertisement for SNL. I may watch it later but tbh I’m so done with this band. Also glad someone else called them narcissists because it’s pretty much blatantly obvious at this point

what a fun review lmao, enjoyed it a lot despite knowing nothing about this band
|

Even though I haven’t heard the album yet I’m not surprised that it’s getting the reaction it’s receiving. Despite their last album We being a decent but not great album the band’s image as the next big thing had started to fade around the release of Everything Now.

Just listening to this... There's glimmers of... something? I quite enjoyed the ambience of Year of The Snake. But then you get to Circle of Trust and it's just uncomfortably bad. This will be an interesting listen...
Edit - It's just getting gradually worse
Edit Edit - I actually kinda like the title track and Year of The Snake, but the rest of this album is inexcusable.

lol that tracks, mental
My first impressions of Year of the Snake were actually kinda positive until I dug into the lyrics and let it sit for a bit. I wouldn't say the first listen of the entire thing was positive, but it was inoffensive and forgettable. The longer I thought about it though, the worse it became lol

what a fascinating crash-and-burn this band experienced
like honestly, who would've thunk it

I know this isn't good. I know that. I know Win isn't good...I know that. I still like this enough (to my own shock, trust me)

It is bizarre (and that's not even including the awulf off-the-field stuff) how sharply they've taken a U-turn into this sort of blase malaise of a sour tasting indie stew. I somehow have twisted the apathy recorded here into at least an opposite pole of the normal bombast that I've grown very tired of. If things were different, I'd try to find even more here to be like, "hey look, this is by far as stripped as they've ever sounded - that's something!" But, I, like everyone else, will just yawn, shrug, and frown, and move on with my life.

I sat thru the Taylor swift anthology this can’t be a tougher listen
Honestly I think going in with absolutely zero expectations might lead me to like it more, I really dug the new car seat headrest album and that was the first I ever listened to them, tho that avg is significantly higher lmao god damn this shit is gonna be whack huh
