But EN is so bad that most days I’d say it’s the worst album ever made. But while I often forgot this was playing at times during my run through and it is extremely bad, I just more or less kept asking myself “damn did they even make sure this thing had a pulse?” And I was often bored to tears, there’s nothing here as grating or whacked out as say Chemistry or Peter Pan. I’d consider those amongst the worst songs ever made. Alien Nation is up there though. It’s definitely this albums awful stinker, but it still comes nowhere close to those two.

I don’t rank 1s but they’re both *checks notes* bottom 65. This is marginally ‘better’ for giving me a couple of fleetingly entertaining moments. Mostly dull, especially instrumentally, but occasionally laughable lyricism

How on Earth does a band fall off this hard, this is rubbish, a band that wrote Funeral The Suburbs Neon Bible and Reflecktor.. Just sad

Idk. Like I said while it sucks there’s nothing here as bad as Peter Pan or Chemistry. Those songs would have me drink poison or something. They could make someone off themself if played over and over. I heard nothing here that bad. And thank God there’s no song with Regine shouting like Creature Comfort. That song is nails on a chalkboard. If someone asked me to listen to this or EN or he was shooting me, I’d probably tell him to shoot me but if I had any desire to live I’d probably pick this.

it really is a strange phenomenon when a band that has released great music releases something truly awful. like, you were so good back then, and you’ve had so much time to further hone your craft since then… maybe you can’t recapture the quality of your best stuff but there should be a baseline of quality right?

I get that and agree with that statement.
But here I can't find a single highlight... on EN and We, even if the lows were really low (and they were), some good tracks could be found. Did not found nono of those here.

I mean the only song on this album I consider decent is Year of the Snake, I like the simplistic nature of the song and sometimes the less is more approach works other than that nothing is worth listening too I rather watch paint dry.
It’s true Peter Pan and Chemistry are probably the worst songs ever LOL

Alien Nation might be their worst song for me now. I have the stomach for bad Arcade Fire lyrics, but it's so bad, it's like parody.

Yeah I was reading reviews and one that gave it a middling review and said “while this is designed to sound cathartic live…” I was thinking if this was played in full fit a concert it might be the most boring concert of all time. Also I legitimately cannot find a highlight in either this or EN. I didn’t even like the title track for EN. But yes Alien Nation is really bad.
I feel like I Love Her Shadow could be a good song if done correctly. I think Tame Impala could probably pull it off

As I touched on in the review, this really isn’t Arcade Fire.
It’s Win and Regine using brand familiarity

Yeah. Not to digress but I felt the same way about the new BCNR album. But yeah kinda wild that they’ve managed to keep a brand but haven’t released a good album in 12 years. There’s been more time since their last good album than there was between it and Funeral
But they’ve been a good case study on what not to do when creating a band. They really should’ve stopped while they were ahead, like Reflektor. Even tho I think EN is a hot dumpster fire, I can kinda halfway excuse it. They could’ve looked at it and either said it’s time to quit or at least learned from it and started making good stuff again. But these last 3 albums have really pissed all over their reputation. People are not gonna look back on them fondly. They’re gonna water down their discography and many will see them as going on far too long. They had 4 stellar albums and they’ve had almost as many piss poor ones

I get the BCNR comp, but they at least have been extremely upfront with the change in direction and the hierarchy of the band. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the new record, but it did feel like a BCNR project to me.
Pink Elephant feels like the “this is fine” meme and tries to carry on like business as usual

Exactly. Lol. I was listening to this like yeah Win and Regine have to be narcissists at this point. Lol. Cuz they live in some fantasy world and think they’re just providing life changing music for the people while we all really wish they would stop.

Part of me genuinely believes that they know their music sucks now and it's just an inside joke for them to keep getting worse and see if people will still pay/listen.
