"nobody gave a shit about hum until inlet"
uh?
rly don't enjoy zit-popping shite like this being counted as hum's legacy (no heavygaze band comes close to their trademark zen) but credit where it's due, these guys have manufactured it competently

i'm not saying that at all
hum basically invented this sound but got little to no mainstream recognition for it

Cynical is pretty cool

Yeah Cynical is a massive highlight
That run from Marathon through Enjoy Your Stay is where it's at.

“ don't enjoy zit-popping shite like this being counted as hum's legacy (no heavygaze band comes close to their trademark zen) but credit where it's due, these guys have manufactured it competently”
all come from Helmet
“hum basically invented this sound but got little to no mainstream recognition for it”
with as huge as White Pony was and how Deftones mentioned them as an influence, that was enough for bands to check them
out. Stars was pretty huge and underground bands were what influenced what was to come later anyway

Helmet did some of the footwork for the heavy sound that hum incorporated into theirs but has no link to the shoegaze aspect. Would agree that Hum at the very least did the combination of the two best / first

"Tik tok was mostly responsible for the renaissance of deftones popularity"
Yeah it's crazy how many kids are into Deftones now. I love it
|
| |
I went back to my hometown in SFL to see Deftones in March and I felt old compared to a lot of the crowd. Maybe the kids are alright
|
| |
At Sunrise too? I was there. I love it too, they needed a new band to magnetize to

Only thing TikTok has done for the greater good of society.

Yup it was the sunrise show. Thought all 3 bands were incredible but found the sound in the Panthers arena a lil lacking. Great night regardless

This album rules, much better than most 2000s nostalgia bands

wish they leaned more into the metalcore side like they do on the track with static dress
gives them an extra edge the other bands don't have

[2] all props to Helmet though. Siamese Dream also got its foot in the door early as far as heavygaze goes (though that one's angst transcends mere zits lol)

I gotta get into Helmet more. Only heard Meantime and it owns massively

Listening to this right now, huge grooves, but the arrangements could be more differentiated song-to-song.

he uses the same vocal inflections on every song which is a little boring
|
| |
^^Agreed, and that affects what the instruments are playing.
The 3.5 rating average is pretty fair imho.

Yeah I agree I'm kind of seeing this as shallow on multiple listens.
One thing I find really tiring about this wave of bands is the production. I don't know who started this, Vein or someone, but it's like this grimy, fuzzy wall-of-sound thing going with the guitars and vocals that is just exhausting and doesn't let anything breathe.
Yet if you listen to the albums from the era they are trying to emulate, none of them have that.
