also that album art is meant to bring you back to being a horny 13 year old
i guess they knew what they were doing, i was 12 when meteora came out

"i'm a bit over the piling into the 2000s era style that's been happening right now"
It'll subside in a while, like the 80s synth that was in everything not too long ago. Still there but not forced into every song

Some of these riffs are so Linkin Park though and I love it lol

the problem is they waited far too long to get this out
my ticket home was done, they left a large void and nobody had really taken the ball and ran with it yet. somebody's closer was a breath of fresh air in 2021
but now you have 1001 deftones clones who have seen how popular split chain has become overnight by essentially ripping these guys off (even the fucking logo is the same with the circle around it) and capitalizing off 90s nostalgia with drop c# 0-1-0-4 style power riffs and melodic vocals
i've even seen a few people suggesting bleed is ripping them off lol. kudos to split chain for how well they've done, but they definitely weren't the first ones to throw it back to the 90s
the real reason this sound blew up is youngest daughter going viral on tiktok

If you like this album you might also like Seventh Dose - Delirium.
They sound quite similar although Seventh Dose lean more into shoegaze than Bleed.

the more i listen to this the more it comes across as a collection of singles than an actual album

will cheq seventh dose
these guys might not be doing anything original but i think they stand above the other revival alt metalgaze stuff just by virtue of the vocals not sucking

makes sense this is on 20buckspin. weird how no matter the sub-genre, most of their releases always feels to me like the vibes and aesthetic is there but there is basically no memorable song-writing
i'll remember the general sound of this but couldnt remember a single moment from any song on it

This album is so damn good

Hell yeah bloc
They leaned pretty heavy into the LP worship on here. Somebody's Closer felt like it had more of a unique identity

I dig split chain too, but the logo being identical is ridiculous lol

“the real reason this sound blew up is youngest daughter going viral on tiktok”
nah there’s more to it than that
deftones
hum
it goes back
|
| |
? don't people's youngest daughters go viral on tik tok every day, that's what it's for right.
|
| |
even their oldest daughters but no one writes songs about them except their spiteful sisters

Idk man Stars was pretty big back in the day
Astronaut and Downward are super underrated in the grand scheme of things tho
|

Tik tok was mostly responsible for the renaissance of deftones popularity and youngest daughter really popularised this sound but most deftones esque bands were already putting shit out a few years before it
Soul blind, moodring, day aches, narrowhead etc
So it was already making a comeback
