I tend not to bother with EPs so this is the first proper new Spiritbox material I've heard since 2021. Opener is a snooze, hoping the rest is better!

If you're wondering if you should check this out unironically, no. Check the earlier material if anything, you can skip this

This is so painfully boring. Meh. It’s not “bad,” but it’s also not good. Honestly I’d consider this worse than a bad album though because bad albums at least stand out. Like I can recall them by the end of the year. This will wash away and fade to obscurity for me.

This doesn't particularly start great, but it grows into itself over the course of album, showing off various difference influences.
I don't know much about production/mixing/mastering etc., but this sounds very loud and consequently slightly muddled at times - on odd occasions everything blurs into one singular noise.

Modern day production is so hit and miss these days. It's either squeaky clean with no personality, a wall of sound, or everything is muddy and stacked on top of one another. I wonder if it has something to do with digital versus analog recording. I'd assume the guitars are all recorded straight into a DAW using Axe FX or something.

It's actually growing a little, I start the album with Perfect Soul and remove No Love No Loss it's very good. Think I prefer it to Eternal Blue

It’s very muddled. And I can’t tell one track from the next. I remember Black Rainbow because it’s probably the worst thing here. Like it moves on rails, chugs painfully, just an absolute flatline from start to finish. It is far and away the worst thing here and showcases exactly what is wrong with this album to a T. Crystal Roses stands out because apparently everyone hates it, but for me it’s okay. The second verse was a weird choice but outside of that, it’s not terrible. It actually has memorability. Deep End is the best thing here but if it were on Eternal Blue id probably consider it the worst thing on the album. This is so devoid of any hooks or energy or anything that made Eternal Blue good. I can’t really recall much outside of those tracks I named. All of them sounded the same. I don’t understand how this is garnering such acclaim. And I’m not even dogging on them being chuggier and heavier. Hell, Cellar Door is probably the best thing they’ve done but there’s a clear step down from that song and the EP it’s on to this album. Underwhelmed is an understatement

If people don’t like the production choices I understand that but to say that things blend together that’s hard to believe unless they truly took time to pick apart things. The details to everything is easy for me to find.

It just reminds me a lot of when Eidola went from The Architect to Eviscerate. Just completely the wrong move and not properly executed. I would say it may grow on me but much like that album, I don’t have much desire to return
|

That’s fair. But yea when people have complaints on the production it feels like they have more issue on sonic choices than how it’s mixed, cuz it sounds as clear anything else they made.
