Good lyrics can be found in deathcore, i.e. Fit For An Autopsy

Yeah idk why we need to act like the bar is in hell, it may not be a genre known for strong lyrics but there is decent stuff out there. And when you actually have intelligible vocals like Phil does it can be hard to ignore some of the edgy teenager lines.
But I'm nitpicking, this is a great album. Mammoth God is peak.

I've never been the biggest fan of this band however 4 tracks in and this sounds like some quality deachcore.

Album seems pretty divisive. That's at least something.

"The lyrics are pretty embarrassing for a group their age. Like cmon, even with this subject matter surely you could write something less juvenile."

my exact thoughts. i can't lie, the reversed lyrics on some tracks sound cool, but it's like...there's enough going on in the world that you could write about something with a little more depth. i think that's why i came to appreciate the valley/kin more when i understood what he was writing about.

I mean they all but said that this is meant to be dumb as hell and heavy to the point of stupid.
They just gave us two albums with (imo at least) strong, deeply personal lyrics and layers upon layers in the music, and the other half of fans have subsequently been bitching the entire time about how they have sold out and should go back to pure deathcore.
Somebody is always gonna be pissy. I can't dig on people too much for caring about the lyrics to the point where it can detract from the music. It's just like the audiophiles who will tear down an album because of it's production...it just doesn't compute with me. Can't imagine getting less enjoyment (from metal in particular) because of shoddy production or goofy lyrics.

i much preferred the valley and kin
this lost a lot of what made them so unique

they’re still the same band though

"I mean they all but said that this is meant to be dumb as hell and heavy to the point of stupid."
i didn't know that the band had said that they would go that far, especially with lyrics, so that kind of changes the way i think about it if they upfront said that they weren't trying to speak to something greater. i mean, i could read into the lyrics and try to divine some greater meaning but...
besides that, i appreciate your point, guyman. i think the comparison to audiophiles is a great way of thinking about it.

This may be blasphemy, but to me this sounds like Lorna Shore without the melodies/symphonic parts but equally overproduced. I much prefer Kin

Maybe it's the way the vox and overall sound is mixed. Sounds compressed/overproduced. I'll give this some more spins though, might grow on me
