This is definitely my favorite of theirs, basically a summation of everything good about the prior two albums

Think my fav is still the debut but they haven't made an album that wasn't at least great. Very excellent and consistent band

this is definitely a bit brick-walled but as that style of prod goes it’s not a terrible example of such things

Idk, I thought there were enough tangible dynamics here, esp. for the "style" but maybe I am just easier to please than I let on.
This thing is absolutely relentless, though, and the drummer is a madman.

The drumming on this album is crazy good

yeah maybe for the style tect. Idk it seems like a common occurence with the more relentless forms of disso-tech. Still, these guys have some interesting ideas and maybe I'll adjust
It deserves another go but I'll wait for the right mood (spun it 3 or 4 times already)

This has been my go-to gym album for the last three-ish weeks. Those extended instrumental sections are juicy as hell. This occasionally feels like a Pyrrhon album with a sharper/more aggressive edge.

I'm not sure the topics of these guys' lyrics gravitate towards extraterrestrials specifically, but otherwise this very consistent German brutech-death band is checkmarks down the line for what is featured on this (similarly high-quality) Gigan record... deserves a mention - just was released couple weeks ago, too:
Defeated Sanity - "Chronicles of Lunacy"
if Gigan alone doesn't scratch this particular niche-itch - this (or any) DS record should do it

Everyone here heard of that one ;) It's very good

"Everyone here heard of that one ;) It's very good"
ok cool haha figured, but - the reviewer didn't? as evidenced by stating that nothing else of this sort came out this year?

I didn't not expect to see a DS rec / ref in a Gigan thread, but if we're talking thematically then maybe(?) because honestly I have absolutely no clue here outside of the sci-fi aesthetic. I love DS yet their themes elude me also. I just hear riffs baby
as for my earlier comment, this is v nice in smaller doses but the relentlessness becomes tiring at times. I think the lack of dynamics hurts a front-to-back jam. It's possibly hypocritical of me to say when I rep label mates Slugdge and it does err on the side of 'good' brick-wall in a similar way to Esoteric Malacology, but these guys don't have the benefit of that extra memorability (outside of a choice moment or two)
tl;dr - pretty cool album tho / in touching distance of 3.5

Fucking bollocks, accidentally deleted my own comment lol. In short, lyrics (particularly on track 1) reek of aliens to me and I appreciate your refutation of what was a tongue in cheek claim. DS slaps but is a different sub genre?
Glad you have this a fighting chance demon. I don't really mind some brick wall as long as the drums aren't a blown out trigger fest
