I didn't expect to enjoy an Underworld album this much in 2024, but this is great.

I'm finding Ottavia oddly compelling right now. But surely those vocals are going to grate at some point.

Yeah Lewis in Pomona is a sweeeeeet tune!

Lovely album.

Agreed about the niceness of Ottavia too, curious how enjoyment will develop as well.

Idk how to feel about this alb, but it's overall cosy and good? Which is not a vibe I normally turn to Underworld for? Highs are very high (Hilo Sky jfc what a great tune) and the lows aren't so much low as a little languorous (+Ottavia, which is its own category), but it does very much feel its length? Idc, lots of good stuff to come back to lfg

I understand that. Also despite the 'do not shuffle' warnings and the fact that this does work well as an album I think some tunes end prematurely (and the colour red's fade out for instance). That comes on top of there being too many 3 minute and shorter tracks.

Curious how these feelings develop over the next couple of weeks of inevitable listening.

Mmmyeah, when the pacing drags, it's rarely because any given idea feels bloated (maybe Ottavia, but that's more a side effect of standing out as incongruous) but bc the tracklist is consistently high on shrapnel (like, I love that part of the song but did we need a Denver Luna reprise?)

Not sure if this is a problem they've had before — maybe the Drift series (which I should finally hit up) got them a little trigger happy?

I absolutely love the Drift series.

Just now listening to this. Weird opener

Despite having a few misgivings about the album - there is no doubt this contains some the best music they’ve released in years.

"shrapnel" Yes. That's exactly it. They've never done that before either, I'm certain of that.

Drift is super duper good and I love soooooo many of those ~60 tracks.

Yeah Hilo Sky is also superb. Gene Pool + and the colour red are great too. The only thing here I actively dislike is Ottavia, to the point I might hate it

On Gene Pool now, really love it too. Goes for that trance-ish euphoric feeling, and nails it.

Ottavia is still on my good side, but I definitely get why people would dislike it.
