Ehh, you lose the point if you push the edginess more. If the concept is supposed to be the dichotomy of present-day Em with the angst-fueled fire-starting Slim, then it has to be a fair tug-of-war between the two mentalities. I think you're wanting the glorious return of Slim whereas Em's whole point is that these are the death rattles of an outdated and angry persona that he wants to give the proper burial. It's basically Em giving Slim his last moments to shout, rap, and shit on all these folks while he fills Slim's grave with dirt.

"I cannot stress enough that the concept is interesting and this would've been a far better album if he killed Slim in, like, track 4 or 5 and allowed himself to try and actually be reflective and lyrical for more than 2 songs."
I agree with this, it was my expectation for the album, but regardless on first listen I enjoyed it, better than his last album but without the relevance or bars of his stuff from 20+ years ago.

"The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe De Grace) is the best record Eminem has done since The Marshall Mathers LP2"[2]

@christ- I mean I still think this exact concept could have been done making those exact points with him having like just a few more relevant targets that weren’t from 20 years ago - still could have killed slim with the new more mature em, and literally all of that - the execution didn’t have to be so redundant.
I get the point, but the fact is that he’s still brining some of that old rapping cadence and persona back. If this is his actual death rattle, I still think it could have been fun to poke at a few more relevant things (celebrities, events or whatever) and bring in some fun edgy bars on the way out
Like I said before, I don’t want a 50 year old em to rap about raping his mother or genuinely going after someone in a super uncalled for way, but I really think he needed to make slim go after a few more relevant targets so it wouldn’t be so fucking predictable as a listener - and like I said, “that being the point” doesn’t really fully excuse this for me as a listener, it just comes across as laziness to bring slim back and have him basically do nothing we haven’t heard on like 6 other albums before

Oh for sure, Lucca. Just because we recognize his intention doesn't mean that it was pulled off very well. At least in my opinion. I find the whole thing incredibly stale. Tobey was the only interesting track after skipping around a lot. It takes a lot of nuance and ingenuity to not make this thing sound like, "how do you do fellow kids: the album"

This isn't terrible like the zero ballsack online haters will make it out to be (Hyperion). And isnt the great return of em making a great album like the Stan's are going to say. It's pretty decent for modern em and thats about it which is good enough. Best since mmlp2. Decent-Enjoyable album

Having a hate train in the first place on a 51 year old modern Eminem album online in a dark corner of the Internet (Sputnik) that hardly anyone even comes to anymore is even more Corny than modern Eminem albums. But I don't think kids understand that
