yeah thats precisely it though, their take on sludge just doesn't gel with me. They have similar roots to Neurosis and ISIS but taken to an experimental extreme. I find the result much less immediate but it has the potential to grow on me

Also, Demon, babygirl, its not personal I promise, Alex asked for sludge so why would I give him post-metal? Its not like sludge has given us anything good outside Mastodon, Acid Bath and High on Fire anyway, I just wanted to help him through the shit.
Speaking of shit...
Post-metal may have some incredible highs, but its dependence on musical literacy is so much fucking higher than any other metal subgenre that the bottom feeder shit is fucking miserable. This feels like it uses the empty space to its every advantage, the riffs feels so massive that if it weren't for the "meandering" to reach them they wouldn't fit on the album
This could be well because of my own changing tastes tho, its just been my experience that randomly sampling new post metal albums is an easy way to waste a lot of time

Uh well I think The Melvins kinda fucking suck so I'm glad he doesn't take more influence

I can fw Melvins, but they're absolutely one of those MBV/TVU acts where the most valuable part of their legacy is the droves of bands they influenced

wtf melvins rock aaron turner wishes he had 1/10th the swag of king buzzo

Album Rating: 4.0
Saying Buzzo has 10/10 swag is actually a really ironic way of stating exactly how uncool Melvins are

Melvins literally invented Sludge Metal. They were heavily influenced by hardcore bands like Black Flag and that definitely comes through their work. It's not to everyone's taste but what they do, they do very well. Also Buzz is one of the nicest guys in the industry.

yeah, not a Melvins fan either tbh, but obviously an important band
sludge is usually better when it embraces outside sounds, which is usually post for me personally, but not always. Some sludgy hxc / powerviolence / crust type stuff rules too
