l'enfant de la lune is fucking unreal, amethyste too

bold move for the band and label to save the best two songs for the album proper rather than single releases

Might be my favorite Alcest next to Kodama. This was stunning first listen.

I'm not a huge fan of the production. it sounds good when there's a lot of instruments and sounds in the background, but at other times it sounds a bit flat? idk, maybe I'm tripping. drums sound great tho

Yeah i gotta agree, tbh. There's a section at the beginning of amethyste that sounds not that good in particular.

l'enfant de la lune is one of their best songs, wow

l'enfant de la lune is the obvious highlight for sure - that ending sends me into shivers. it feels like the kind of song that should have been on spiritual instinct - basically the style of that album done right.

it's somewhere between a 4 and a 4.5 for me. if the more subdued tracks (l'adieu and reminiscence) were cut it'd be a better album imo - those tracks do nothing for me at all. thankfully only accounts for like 6 minutes of the experience. definitely an improvement front to back over spiritual instinct which i basically never revisit except for one song.

this is my 'focused listen of the week' so it'll get at least six listens before this time next week - see if we can improve on an initial 3.5, it will have every chance...

So many moments on here transporting me back to that springtime nostalgic atmosphere of Souvenirs, but with an added twist of Kodama's intricacies. Compared to Spiritual Instinct this album feels very inspired and rejuvenated. Easily one of the best, if not the best records I've heard this year.

Peak Mononoke Metal. Best song I heard this year by a long shot. ( But I haven't heard much since April tbh)

This was an awesome morning listen. Definitely sounds more invigorated than Spiritual Instinct. Gonna need a bit more time with it to see where it settles, but it makes me excited about Alcest again.

Cannot say enough how much I adore the cover
