I truly don’t understand the level of hate they get. I know the company they keep doesn’t help but even surface level songs like Bat Country and Nightmare are so clearly a step above pretty much every mainstream metal band in terms of technical ability and just songwriting creativity.
I’ve always liked Matt as a vocalist too, I know a lot of people fuckin hate him but I don’t even really get that either.

The band is gay, what's hard to understand about that?
Jokes aside, I find them in the same boat as Trivium in this respect. Both bands have insanely memorable melodies, batshit insane technical ability and talented vocalists, and have been trashed anyway. Shads' nasal singing can be annoying at times, but that's all I would have a problem with.
I remember reading a review of The Stage where the main criticism towards the album was that Matt sounded too much like Chris Cornell.

I’m not crazy about Trivium but yeah, I’d put them in the same boat for sure. That would be a great bill, Trivium is the perfect size band for an opening slot. I don’t think they’d even need a second opener. A 45 min set from Trivium followed by like 2 hours of these guys would be amazing.
Still, nothing will ever compare to the first time I saw them. Fucking Ghost and Deftones opened, which tbh now both bands are massive and would obv be a co-headliner kinda deal. I just wish it was on a better tour. I liked HttK a lot more back then but so much of that show was shit from that album. I think the only songs they DIDNT play were Acid Rain, Heretic, and Coming Home, which is a shame because the latter two are the best songs on the album imo

I think fashion choices at the peak of their MTV run has a lot to do with why they cop shit. But I don't care, they're a top 5 all timer for me.

That Statica abomination won't make me love this (or most of their catalogue) any less tbh

I think this is their best album. Did not enjoy "Magic" or Statica, but this LP is still as refreshing as it was back in 2023. Hopefully they return to this sound.

Unfortunately, with the whole statica situation, I think this might be it for them as far as LPs go. I can’t remember the specific interview but I remember Matt mentioning that it’s easier to just drop singles in the streaming era than it is to record a full length record.
I hope I’m wrong, but if this really is their last album… yeah they went out on an insanely high note.
