Fantastic record that doesn't quite achieve the same emotional impact as Hiding Places for me. The beats are not as exciting, some of the features are really hit or miss, so yeah maybe I'll appreciate it more with repeated listens, but so far it feels more like a 4.0.

Also realised in the course of writing this that I haven't listened to the Armand Hammer and The Alchemist album yet, v excited to chew on that on the next rainy day
Danny Brown's verse is simultaneously great and bad, I don't know what to think anymore. All the other features crushed it I thought, love the first Elucid one and Aes is as good as always

Aethiopes is very good obv but the commitment to an absolutely smothering atmosphere all the way through is just a bummer to listen to. I love how this album puts him in a more accessible context, with both the beats and the tour album concept and sees how much woods can still be woods in this unfamiliar ground. it's a full reset of his sound imo and for the better
for like days been trying to reconcile that Playboi Carti line being on the same record as the final line of As the Crow Flies. makes no damn sense, compels me though

I think I like billy more in a duo than flying solo. His lyricism is absolutely astounding, just don’t love the early big boi-esque arrhythmic thing he does a lot

Banger on banger! Puro fuego abstracto.

botb☆ agree. im pretty burned out on woods and elucid atm, but i point to the armand hammer stuff as the best works from both. woods alone isnt the most likeable personality and elucid alone strays off chasing every rabbit. they check each other's weaker traits in complementary fashion.

Damn, some real good stuff on here. Production didn't really wow me but it could just need a few relistens

Jash$ woods keeps it no nonsense nonstop, very heavy, dense, and critical. this approach works when cut down by elucid's open, experimental, and weird approach. i like woods but he can be a bit much when listening to full albums of solo material.

Seems you've missed his sense of humour entirely (which also extends to the formal/songwriting side of things)

Got my vinyl copy the other week (standard version, I missed out on the deluxe and alternate tracklist/bonus tracks and other features), it sounds amazing and the packaging is so fun. Backwoodz really one of the best labels out there right now for real
