I think their most underrated album is monumension. I get the criticism, they hadn’t 100% worked out how to fuse their prog and black metal inclinations but it also has that wonderful exploratory quality that a lot of “figuring it out” albums have. tracks like the cromlech gate and smirr are some of the best things they ever did.

Yeah, I remember kinda liking Monumension, too. Not despite it being different, but because of it.

Haven't revisited it in ages. Probably should.

@Flug - We are Viking brothers now! Yeah, after going through every album and having each one impress me made me realize Enslaved is now one of my favorite metal acts. Definitely up there as one of the best (if not my favorite) black metal bands. This album is so fun, I can’t stop listening it to it. Gonna seek out that bonus track now.

Monumension is pretty good. Some of their mid era is pretty underrated. Eld slaps too

I guess eld is more early than mid era but it still has some of that transitioning between eras sound

Finally, an Enslaved album that really captures my attention again. While still good, nothing has peaked my interest since Axioma. There's some lovely mid era Enslaved here, with a more experimental approach. Looking forward to make a deeper dive in this. The most consistent bm band together with Fen.

... and, as been said before; there is a lot going on this. Will take a while to sort this album out.

Might be wrong, but isn't Sandøys cleans less prominent on Heimdal compared to the other albums since he joined Enslaved? While not annoying, i've hade some issues not thinking they steal too much of the spotlight in the wrong way. Here, they complement the music really well.
