woo ty!

@Donchivo thanks so much for your lovely comment, lotta good points raised:

"One thing that I think might be good to include into part 2, is to point out the songbook character of Masada as opposed to different groups playing different pieces just somehow related to the Masada topic"

yup, good point thank you - added a little extra to clarify this

"One new learning for me was that book of angels series contains new compositions for the respective performing group. I always thought they were also using pieces from the masada songbook."

my understanding is that the Book of Angels is just that - a whole new Masada songbook? i don't know (and would doubt) that the pieces were written specifically for each group, but I'm pretty sure it's new material?

and uh yes, i bet this sounds absolutely splendid live - would much prefer to hear it in that setting

"Ultimately most of his content would end up on many separate band pages. This might make his work harder to track? I personally like having most of his content under one banner in chronological order."

and yeah i feel this, plus the task of subdividing Zorn's whole discog into separate projects is not one i have the faintest intention of undertaking lol. ig for Ipos, the Dreamers credit seemed especially marked given the nature of that series as not 'solo' Zorn but whatever, the database will cope

Haha, I attended a half day seminar once, which undertook the task to structure and divide and explain tne different projects, sectors, cycles or however you would call it... I remember that there was even some kind of mapping on that. I gotta check if I still find that somewhere and will share if I do.

*double post*

Yeah, Book of Angels (or Book 2) are all new compositions within the Masada songbook. In an interview he said he wrote 300+ songs in 3 months lol. I don’t think he wrote them specifically for the various groups to perform, but perhaps curated which ones would work best for each group (big maybe). If he did write most if not all at once, it’s interesting then that it took something like 12 years for it all to come out, while Book of Beri’ah (Book 3) was all released at once. Hmm now I’m rambling. Love me some Zorn and after a decade of listening to his work, I never grow bored. He’s already got like three more albums coming out over next three months haha
